I'm currently enrolled in a masters degree. The basic fees are £4500 (Home/EU) rising to £10,000 for international students. Per year. So if you do it part time it'll cost you double (on this course anyway).

How very strange.
There are way too many loopholes for that to work. Which university are you at?0 -

Which bit is strange? I know the fee amounts are correct. The bit about part time costing double is by word of mouth - so may not be so exact. What I do know though, is that if you do it over 2 years instead of 1 it does cost more in fees - its not the exact same amount.
Its the University of Liverpool.

I meant the double over two years thing. Normally a part time course is broken down in a per module cost for part time courses. Eg full course £4,000 for 6 modules. Part time £750 per module = £4,500. But again this varies per institution.
The fees for postgrad courses depends largely on the course and the Institution, they generally start at around £3500 for some of the less popular courses and rise to around £7000 for MBA standard (although some institutions chanrge a little more for some courses!)0 -
hii what course you wanna do?
when i applied to do my masters degree i had 3 offer 2 of them with funding (about 9000£ plus fees) the other master degree was was funded but only covered fees. its difficult but you can get funding. lert us know the area u r intersted and we may able help uare you thinking what iam thinking :T0 -
Hi, I am looking at carrying out a business management masters, mainly around the North East really. Funding is not easy to come by unfortunately!!"£$%^&*()0

Hi, am also looking at doing a masters - there are scholorships for fees out there but they are very very difficult to get.
Just a word of warning if you are applying to the research council for funding (3+1 programme its called) lots of money - about 11,000 per year and your fees paid. But you do have to pay it back if you dont complete! and its even more difficult to get hold of than said scholorships - mainly because you already have to have your foot in the door of the uni to get one.
Career Development Loans are in my opinion a pretty bad option - they are unforgiving in that they do not give you space between finishing your course and getting a job, repayments being instantly - also the interest rate is very high!
You are lucky in your choice of a business related masters - there is a very real possibility that you might be able to find a company to sponsor you - I would advise writing to prospective employers to ask about this.
My plan is to work for a few years to raise money for fees and pay off my undergrad debts and spend most of my free time dreaming up essays to send to schlorships funds that might get me money - there is very little funding in my chosen area unfortunately (Public Health/Anthropology) let me know how you get on!!!
Goodluck!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
as you can see from my signature i'm diong my thesis at the moment for my m.a. The course cost £3005 at liverpool, it has gone up for 2005/6 to about £3100 i believe.
It is not true that if you do a part time course it costs you double, thankfully.
I received a scholarship for half the ammount from Yoko Ono who had donated a fund on behalf of John Lennon for Liverpool Students. The main proviso was that you had to be a liverpool citizen and show a basic interest in the environment.
The universities are very cagey about the awards they offer. Get in touch with the department and the main uni office to find out what is available. A great deal of these awards are not based on academic merit.
Research council awards (£11-12 grand) are very hard to get: basically, if you didn't get a first at degree level they won't look unless you have an incredible proposal. There are also politics involved like which uni or dept. you're going in to. These are even more difficult to get if you are doing a taught MA not research and are generally given out to PhD students.
Find out now by pestering the uni's office about awards because if you want to study next semester, the clsoing dates for applications for bursaries etc are normally early-mid july.
Good luck!0
