I did my own make up but got my hair professionally done. I think it was nearly the most expensive purchase! i hate my headshape so it was a must to get someone to do it properly as I am so rubbish at hairstyles. I'm not so great on make up but booked an appointment at a counter in House of Fraser and the woman who did the make up explained really well. One tip, if you do your own make up, make sure you do it outside. I did this and for the first time it actually looked quite professional! I used Avon products instead of the pricier brands and for once looked quite pretty. I also read that you do need to really slap it on rather than going for the usual barely there (that is what I usually do BTW) effect as the photographs need that. Also use powder to prevent shine on photos.

Where about are you chanelle ? If your north east I can recommend one the one i've booked for my wedding i'm paying £50 for both hair and makeup and after having had trials with her she is really talented if i can help please let me know ! If you aren't this way on have you tried facebook searching for wedding services near to you ? quite often smaller businesses advertise through there and nowhere else so you may find people that way xx

Why not go into a boots store and ask for a make over just don't mention its your wedding day ;)

It may cost a minimal amount - the trouble is as soon as you mention its a wedding prices go up a lot

i could do that but i dont like sitting in front of people watching :(
  • Why not find a mobile hair dresser?

Mine costs £20 for a cut, and she would just charge me the same to do hair for a wedding day.

I would spend some time finding someone.

Who does your hair cutting currently?

i don't get my hair done as i hardly socialise. so not sure where to look.

I just went and had my hair blow dried on the moring of my wedding - it was a bob so no 'up do' needed - didnt menion it was for wedding, so only got charged the normal amount!

Did my own makeup as I hated having it done when I had a trail - spent what I 'saved' on some nice mke up and brushes that I then got to keep!

that sounds great. i dont know how to do makeup though in a way that makes me look really like a bride.
  • where are you? my new salon would do that for £50

i'm in london. if u could pm me ur salon details i could ask further.

Have you got a department store near you that has a MAC counter or a MAC shop near you, they charge £25 for a makeover and thats redeemable on any product so you can get some foundation or a couple of eyeshadows for a treat for afterwards. All of the girls that work for them are trained make up artists, Ive had one before and they were excellent, just have to make sure you tell them exactly what look you after (take pictures as well )

not got one near me sadly. sounds good though.

I got my makeup done for free at Clinique counter (I spend ALOT in there, lol) and paid £35 for a hairdresser to come to me :)

  • Do you work?

This would be a great gift for someone. Where I work us girls would be delighted to contribute to something like this as part of the present.
