moneysaving when getting married? hair and makeup

hi, i am struggling to find a way to save money during the wedding process. i have cut low on funds but when it comes to hair and makeup i feel can't comprimise because i want to look good

most rates i have seen are at least £200 for a combination of both hair and makeup. i havent got great looks so i would need someone to work on me well but i have not had one trial yet because i can't afford it.
is there a way to find people who could do my hair for free as a trial then i can pay them if i like how they do my hair? i know for makeup i could go to a counter in dept. stores but this isn't the same with hair.

What about your local college, might be worth asking there for students nearly qualifying.
  • as well as local colleges it is worth contacting local salons that have a school attached to it - in my town i can think of 4 off the top of my head.
Whenever we paln a big girls night out we all go and get our hair put up/re styled there... the most i have ever paid was £30, but that was a colour, cut and up style! For someone to dress my hair i usually pay £10 with a tip for the junior stylist.

If you aren't this way on have you tried facebook searching for wedding services near to you ? quite often smaller businesses advertise through there and nowhere else so you may find people that way xx

    I've been Money Tipped!
Why not go into a boots store and ask for a make over just don't mention its your wedding day ;)

It may cost a minimal amount - the trouble is as soon as you mention its a wedding prices go up a lot
  • Why not find a mobile hair dresser?

Mine costs £20 for a cut, and she would just charge me the same to do hair for a wedding day.

I would spend some time finding someone.

Who does your hair cutting currently?

I just went and had my hair blow dried on the moring of my wedding - it was a bob so no 'up do' needed - didnt menion it was for wedding, so only got charged the normal amount!

Did my own makeup as I hated having it done when I had a trail - spent what I 'saved' on some nice mke up and brushes that I then got to keep!

  • Have you got a department store near you that has a MAC counter or a MAC shop near you, they charge £25 for a makeover and thats redeemable on any product so you can get some foundation or a couple of eyeshadows for a treat for afterwards. All of the girls that work for them are trained make up artists, Ive had one before and they were excellent, just have to make sure you tell them exactly what look you after (take pictures as well )
