Soft northener ..... and i've never ever driven inside the M25 !! .. trips to london normally being a train from newcastle... into kings cross .. taxi to a hotel on oxford street .. taxi's anywhere else and then back to kings cross and up north again after a day or two.
BUT !!!... next saterday 3 of us need to be on uxbridge road shepherds bush from about 6pm to 11pm ... don't want all the time and cost of train /taxi/overnight etc ... so want to drive there before and out straight after .
Do have a tomtom now so that's a help as was always a lousy map reader !!..
... but my queries are .....
is it "easy " to get from A1/M25 junction down to shep bsh..or is it traffic chaos ... what then about parking/security ? .. does congestion charge apply ?...
or .. or is there an easier way of parking at a train station .. be it 5/10/20 miles north and getting direct to where i need to be ?
got my drift ? .. grateful for help and ideas. thanks

The congestion charge doesn't apply.
Traffic is usually chaos in that area any time of the day or night so leave plenty of time.
I wouldn't be happy leaving my car there.
I don't know about parking as we would always go by tube or bus.0 -
thanks bossyboots... so what about "plan b" ! ... is there trains there from somewhere a bit north where i could leave my car ?0
-
If you are driving go round M25 towards Heathrow, come off and head towards Osterley Underground station, park there and take tube you need to change a few times onto the central line at Ealing Broadway I think, then its a few stops from there to Shep Bush.0

looking at a tube map... would it make sense to do something like take the central line ...shepherds bush up to say ruislip.. than i could get straight back onto M1
or picadilly line ? .. say hammersmith to harrow or sudbury area ?
Parking at tube stations out of the centre ?0 -
or can i see a train ... kensington olympia .. to watford ?? no idea on distances . !!0

Both are good options, but don't know how regular trains are into Olympia, try driving to Stevenage then train to KingsX, onto piccadilly line to Holborn, change to central and out to S.Bush, loads of different routes.0

I would drive down the M1 until it ends, then head West (right) on the A406 North Circular to the Hangar Lane Gyratory. Then head East (left) into London on the A40 until White City. Take the slip road as the 3-lane 'motorway' rises into a flyover. Head South (right) down Wood Lane towards the BBC and take a right at the lights onto South Africa Road. Loftus Road stadium (which I presume is where you're going?) is straight ahead of you.
Parking in the area is free after ~5:30 although you can expect the streets to be very busy. It's a residential area so lots of people around to deter thieves.
Good Luck
Here's a multimap of the local area to the North of Uxbridge Road0 -
I drive over to Shepherds Bush occasionally from North London and I agree with Wiseinvestor's route suggestion. I visit friends who live near-ish the stadium just off the Uxbridge Road and I always manage to find a parking space in their road....eventually. My old banger has never been nicked, broken into or anything over there. Enjoy your visit - it's a nice area:)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. personally i'd drive all the way there. if you are a bit nervous look at some of the central line stations off the A40 (M25, M40 , A40) somewhere like ruislip gardens is situated just off the A40 ..take west end road and ruislip gardens station is on the right ...residential area so plenty of safe parking. the nearer you get to shepherds bush though the cheaper the tube ticket.
if you are going to loftus road it is easily reached from white city station as well.
you can also catch the 207 bus from along the lengthy uxbridge rd0 -
decided that the best plan was leaving the car at west ruislip and getting tube to white city.
Just happened to go onto tube website and check out timing ....to find .... !!
Planned works on the Tube network
Central
CENTRAL LINE On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November, suspended between White City and West Ruislip/Ealing Broadway due to planned engineering works.0
