Very bad service from TalkTalk

I was originally with Tiscali and the service I got was so so, now of course, it is TalkTalk. In recent months the broadband connection is extremely unreliable. Often it is unusable, keeps dropping out or will not load pages properly. I am paying for a service I am not getting. It really annoys me that they try to put the blame on my connections within my property, it is never their fault. Everything is as it should be with my connections. I was previously with BT and their service was getting worse so I switched several years ago. I do live some way from the telephone exchange but not in a rural area, this is a built up area in a small town. I can only envisage the service getting worse, probably to the point of being totally unusable. I don't download films or anything, I only use the internet for banking, booking flights, checking news etc. Is it worth trying another ISP? I have Sky TV and my landline is also with Talk Talk.

first step is always to rule out the bit inside your house from the BT master socket inwards as that is where a lot of trouble stems from in many cases .
You say everything is as it should be what exactly do you mean by that .
Tested from master socket and same with or without your internal connections .
Single connection between router/modem and master socket or just lumped on to other boxes .

No point moving from an ISP if problem is yours as the problem stays the same . Rule out internal connections first .
Drop outs is that Wireless or wired connection to pc .

Test (using ethernet not wireless) from the BT test socket (behind the master socket split faceplate) and then post your router stats.

I have had the same probs with talktalk, i find them useless!
Have been looking around for cheaper.
  • Ive been having the same problem and have heard from someone who got told by a talktalk tech its to do with there ipstream circuit, its been affecting alot of ex-tiscali costumers and will take 2 to 3 months to move us over to a new circuit. But then again i cant confirm if its true becuase they tell that many lies i would leave them but have another year on my contract so they say..

On Tiscali I have 6.42 and 0.86 from the above speed test this morning which is usual.
Over the past few weeks an intermittent drop off in service for seconds which requires me to log back in has become common. Rebooting is now a daily occurrence.
