I agree (Now I know it`s a toad, lol) that it needn`t be killed. Toads are great little helpers in the garden, so if you can catch it by any method mentioned here and put it out there it`ll deal with pests on your behalf. :)

    Post duly edited.

Thanks all- I couldnt and wouldnt kill it,but I took the cowards way out,and just sat in my living room nervousing looking sideways (and listening)as it went for a tour of my hall, kitchen and utility room until I encouraged it out through the open door, which it headed towards with great leaps.
When I first saw it I just went all girly and panicy. My dog didnt even notice it when it was 2 feet away.
I tried putting a piece of card down but it jumped over it.

I did panic a bit when I read there might be more of the wascally little critters lurking though!! (Checks down back of sofa!):D

It doesn't matter now it's gone but if it could "leap", it was probably a frog. Just as good for the garden so I'm glad you didn't kill it.

Ah bless ya - I get girly and silly when I come across a huge spider - eek! Glad you got sorted. We live near a stream and get lots of frogs near the front path. There was a massive toad right outside my front door which had been squashed by a car (poor thing :( ) it really was huge. After spotting it my kids were obsessed - why is it dead? what happened? why is it not moving? why is it's leg hanging off? and so on. In the end I had to phone my dad to move otherwise kids would be out there all day. Then I found DS later on, outside over the way where dad had disposed on little froggy, poking it with a stick.!!! Cue dad back who whisked froggy further away. Kids eh? Anyway I know this wasn't entirely relevant just thought I would share :D

  • I have a siamese cat who thinks it is his duty to bring me frogs and toads from the garden pond! I love them, they won't hurt you and they are really useful in the garden, as other people have said. When my cat brings me one, I throw a tea towel over it, grab it and the leg it like mad to the back garden, where they leap off back into the pond! My cat's face isn't so pleased though!

That's much better than when the chickens get hold of them!

My cats used to bring frogs in all the time, now they can't get through the garden with them because the chickens grab them off of them lol!
