Shares ISA advice

Hi I'm new to this board and wondered if someone could advise me on ISA limits etc please.

If I currently invest £200 a month via Fidelity in unit trusts via an ISA can I still open an account with the ShareCentre and purchase £2,700 of individual shares withing my ISA wrapper in 2010/11?

Or do I need to use Fidelity as they are my ISA provider? Sorry I'm learning and a bit confused :(.

you can only contribute to one S&S ISA per tax year at any one time

so no you can't continue to pay into the fidelity ISA and then open a new one
  • Is that the case even if I will only have paid £2,400 into Fidelity by the year end and have headroom of £2,700?

    Thanks
  • So effectively I can't buy any individual shares in 2010/11 now as I have bought unit trusts through my Fidelity account and they don't do individual share dealing through that account?

it would be better to have a self select ISA so that you can buy individual shares and/or unit trusts /OIECs as you wish
in fact it's often cheaper to buy UTs via a self select ISA that directly
e.g. http://www.h-l.co.uk/ (I'm not recommending them and don't use them myself)

PS you can of course buy shares outside the ISA
  • Thank You.
