Trouble with ariel

I've just moved into a new flat where the Ariel comes through the roof via the loft and then its sat in a little socket in the wall like a plug socket. All i'm left with for the ariel is a female end with the tv also being a female end isn't this wrong?
From the ariels i've known in past homes the ariel has always had a male end and the tv a female end??

u would just neeed to buy a male/male cable instead of a female/male cable, alot of places sell them, I had this problem when I moved into my house few years back0

No, two sockets is pretty standard."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Standard fitment for wall plates - there have been two sorts of coax TV aerial cables for decades -
Extension cables (also used for "daisy chaining" VCRs etc) which have a male plug at one end and a female at the other.
Connecting cables for connecting wall plates to TVs etc which have male plugs at both ends.
"Flying" aerial cables usually have a male plug for direct connection to TVs etc.0 -
Yes, a male to male fly lead is nearly always used.
Most people make up their own but you can buy them ready-made.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

But I bet that was a direct aerial feed, not via a wall plate.0
