  • I can't remember the last time I saw a non surface mount resistor but I learned the bad boys one and the rainbow one. The only other one I can remember is monkeys eat peanut butter.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Borrowing KillerWatt's colour scheme, the one I still remember from many years ago is -

    Betty
    Brown
    Runs
    Over
    Your
    Garden

    But
    Violet
    Grey
    Walks

I have used the "black boys rape our young girls but violet goes without" one for 30 years, it has not made me racist towards black boys, nor consider raping anyone or to think that all women called Violet must be virgins.

It has just been a useful phrase to remember to aid me in remembering resistor colour codes.

now that phrase i do remember,

Yep, I'm ashamed to say the racial version will always be ingrained on my mind and when I was taught it the second word wasn't boys!
It wasn't that long ago, mid 80s, but it's amazing to think it was taught openly both for O level and then ONC/HNC. All seemed perfectly normal though we were a completely white class in both cases.
I would never teach it to anyone now and it just seems wrong.
    How times change.

If only capacitor codes had been as simple though!
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
