I can't remember the last time I saw a non surface mount resistor but I learned the bad boys one and the rainbow one. The only other one I can remember is monkeys eat peanut butter.

Yep, I'm ashamed to say the racial version will always be ingrained on my mind and when I was taught it the second word wasn't boys!
It wasn't that long ago, mid 80s, but it's amazing to think it was taught openly both for O level and then ONC/HNC. All seemed perfectly normal though we were a completely white class in both cases.
I would never teach it to anyone now and it just seems wrong.
How times change.

If only capacitor codes had been as simple though!
