quite insulting for your boss to turn around and tell you to MYOB isn't it!
    It's not insulting at all.
Until the boss decides to make things public (if there is anything to go public), it's no-ones business but his.

Insulting and not very professional, but each to their own...

Least of all the people whose livelihood may be coming to an end. They have no business starting to think about what they need to do to secure their futures - and probably no business thinking at all.

Actually it is insulting, cowardly and indefensible. And you are just replicating the insult by attempting to defend it.

Depends whether you look on it from an Employer or an employee perspective.

I am an employer, and i will divulge information that is business sensitive when i decide people need to know, and not when they feel like they are missing out on something.

Thankfully this is not something that successful businesses advocate.

Nor can we expect successful employers spend their daytime on internet forums.

Doesn't make it right and you would be reducing your [loyal?] employees' abilities to deal with such a situation

Oh?? ....and meanwhile employees go ahead and make financial commitments they "know" they can manage - like taking on mortgages or debts that they "know" they can handle. They then find themselves "dropped from a height" with a new commitment slung round their neck that they cant manage - when their employER would have known at the time the employEE took this on that it would be unwise for them to do so (but didnt let on to them - even if they had specifically been told by the employee that they were about to do this)

I've seen it happen - several times - for someone to be made redundant whilst in the process of housebuying (and at a stage where it was too late for them to pull out).

So - how do you feel about it when you know an employee has:
    - taken on a mortgage
    - taken on a debt
    - conceived a pregnancy

AFTER you know (but they dont) that they cant afford to do this - because you are about to make them redundant?

With an employer having the sort of attitude seen here, I hardly think he/she will lose any sleep. As long as it doesn't affect their life why should they care....
