Windows SP1: does it contain the windows activation thingy?

since installing SP1 on tuesday, i've been getting this little message saying my copy of windows 7 is not genuine, and have been given a 28 day deadline to activate the programme, which i can not do as the product key no, which i retrived from a keyfinder download called jellybean, is coming up as not valid, This desktop was given to me by a relative who built it from scratch, so to speak, i guess he must have downloaded a pirate copy of windows7, so that's that then, has anyone else had this problem since installing sp1. cheers:(

SP1 is only for genuine copies of windows so i guess its detected your pirate copy.
So either uninstall it or pay Microsoft some money.

If it wasn't nagging before and is after installing the service pack then I guess it's safe to assume that it does.

Just about any time you download using Windows Update manually it checks and installs the WGA checker.

You've got a couple of legal options - install Linux or buy Windows 7.
  • o.k. thanks for that.

The word BUSTED comes to mind.

If you don't want to pay for Windows then use Linux.

No because I didn't install a hookey version of Windows 7.

It does bring joy to my heart to find out that there'll be loads who haven't got caught to date suddenly getting the same message.

The "fix" was out the same day that SP1 was released :rotfl:
