Strange that you find flights going up daily. I would imagine that the best price for October will be had in July or August. Just because they are going up doesn't mean they won't come back down.

Yeah, maybe they seem high at the moment because Jan/Feb is a popular time for booking. If I can't sort anything then I'll wai
  • You may wish to book a Fly Drive option if it's literally flights/car rental that you need. Virgin can be very competitive in this area, it may also be worth enquiring within reputable travel agents for an idea of the "going rate". And yes, you'll struggle with hotels/cars if you do not have one of those god-awful credit cards...

Don't forget what is happening right now - this may lead to an uncertain price of fuel/oil which may explain the fluctuating prices right now.

Good luck, I hope you enjoy your family reunion. I am longing to go back to FL after my great times there in 2009.

but a very big risk if the OP has to travel, and then find out that later in the year, all the prices have gone up due to all the lower class's of fares selling out.

My suggestion would be that if you see a price you are happy with - BOOK IT (and then never check what the fare would be if you booked it later. Yes, there is a chance it might have come down, but more likely to go the other way. And as far as Jan / Feb being a busy month to book so fares are higher is total tosh. airline fares are based on date of travel, now how busy the month is that the booking is made!

Look at the fly drive options with the likes of TC's, Virgin Holidays, Thomson, and you should get a deposit booking.

  • We used our FairFX pre-paid card last year when we hired a car in California - all it does is effectively authorises an amount of money on the card so that you can't use it! I'd asked the lady to authorise on one (proper credit) card but take payment from the fairfx one but I think she got confused :eek: so we were down $250 for a week or so. On the bright side we never did get charged for the sat nav hire and insurance :j:beer:
Using that card was a mistake that we won't be doing again - same for hotels too, always just give a normal card over for the extras they like to hold something against :)

Interesting that you should say that.

I'm also going to Florida (but coming back from New York) in October or September. The prices have quite suprised me - they seem bonkers.

Last year I left it a bit late and ended up paying £470 return to California when I could have paid £400 had I booked earlier.

This year I can't find flights to Miami for under £500, usually over £600. It's the same deal with a return to New York - 500 quid is about the cheapest for September October at the moment.

It seems to make little sense, neither September nor October are particularly high peak.

If what you say is true then I'll wait a few more months.

I'm rather irritated at the prospect of paying more to New York than I did to Los Angeles, and more to Miami than I paid to fly to Melbourne 2 years ago!
  • Well my family live in California. As I have two small children we decided to meet half way this time, so I was stunned when I realised it was going to cost me way more to get to Orlando than it usually does to get to San Francisco. Barmy!

There is a great site which compares flights/hotels and car hire and searches the entire internet for the best prices. Try them directflights.com

4 posts all recommending a particular website?

    Hmmm....
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
