HD is on cable, too.
It is on trial on DTT (Freeview) but as it requires more frequency spectrum it is unlikely to appear before digital switchover (2008-2012), when the frequencies used for analogue transmissions will be freed.
Electronic games consoles such as the X-Box and the forthcoming PS3 have high definition outputs.
HD-DVD and Blu-Ray (the latter included as part of the PS3) will provide high definition recordings - once you splash out on a compatible player.
You can probably download illegal HD programmes from the internet.
Having said all that, yes, you are right, you are probably only going to be watching entirely or mostly in standard definition for quite some time, and because a lot of the cheap "HD ready" displays have abysmal electronics, on standard definition pictures they will look worse than a standard set.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

Isn't HD just more hype to get us to part with more money?
It seems almost a forgone conclusion that this is the latest musthave, but you will need to spend out a couple of 100£ on the hardware to provide HD (Or a higher sub to Sky or Cable) which I'm not prepared to do.
Cant see ordinary transmissions ending so why do I need HD?
Dont have an Xbox Etc.
Unless there is a good chance that HD will be received via free digibox (doubtful I guess) then what does it matter to me?
have you gone in to currys/dixons/comet etc and seen the diffrence? if you havnt go now and SEE the diffrent! yeh Sky HD cost 299 for the box +20 a month!0
