The above was referring to Samsung Plasmas - not LCDs... If you are looking at 32" then you don't really have any option - it's LCD. If you are looking at 42" then you have a choice - though I think the Samsung LCD is 40". I don't think you need to worry about plasma life span. You do have to be a little careful about image retention on plasmas but apart from that there are a lot of myths about them (which I used to believe and intially discounted them). If you want to do more detailed investigation I think you should visit avforums where there is plenty of info about the various LCD and plasma screens..but be prepared for a lot of info to go through. LCDs are still improving whereas plasmas are quite mature technology now... but considered the best for picture quality. In a couple of years maybe they will be on a par.0

There's an awful lot more to these displays than the panel. Whoever makes the panel (and which one?), if the electronics aren't up to it the picture won't be good. To do it properly you need to spend a lot on the electronics.rizla01 wrote:Samsung tube thoughTime is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

What gets me though, is that people would actually spend over half a grand on a box, when they haven't seen the picture quality or heard the sound quality or felt how well constructred it is, and in particular from a Company that you cannot speak to for advice or rely on a reply to an Email.
My advice to anyone looking for a new TV is to find a few likely offerings on the 'net' and then go to a local Currys or John Lewis to get an idea of what you are purchasing.
You will probably be stuck with this in your lounge for 5-10 years."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0

This is a fair comment Rizla but to be honest when I looked at the Panasonic 42PX60's in Comet and local Panasonic dealers I wasn't that impressed at all on SD Freeview feeds.... but then again I wasn't all that happy with any of the SD pictures on other models. In the end I went on advice of actual users of the TV on AV Forums who had them in their homes... i.e. not under flourescent lighting and with a decent signal feeding them. So glad I did... the picture on my TV is better than anything I saw in the stores and am a very happy chappie. However, I had actually seen the TV before I bought it..
The best option is to be able to try a TV in your own home - but how many retailers will let you do that?0

to be hoinst GUYS N GIRLS
Buy an HD ready TV. Allthough they cost abit more. There the next big thing in tv buy an HD TV and it wont need upgrading for along time. If you buy a LCD your gonna be like i want HD!0

Must admit, I was wondering about HD.
Isn't HD just more hype to get us to part with more money?
It seems almost a forgone conclusion that this is the latest musthave, but you will need to spend out a couple of 100£ on the hardware to provide HD (Or a higher sub to Sky or Cable) which I'm not prepared to do.
Cant see ordinary transmissions ending so why do I need HD?
 Dont have an Xbox Etc.
Unless there is a good chance that HD will be received via free digibox (doubtful I guess) then what does it matter to me?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0
