3GS Price Drop At Three

A friend of mine is about to enter his last 30 days with Three and went into their Winchester shop the other day to see what might be available. To cut a long story short, one of the staff in there told him that the price of the 3GS is due to drop "next week". Now, it may just be coincidence but aren't Apple holding a launch event next week for the iPad 2? And at the launch event for the iPad, last year, didn't they also launch the iPhone 4?

Or perhaps this is just a case of 2+2= (iPhone) 5

The event next week is (or has been in previous years) just for ipad. The main iphone event is in June/July every year and that's where the new models is unveiled.

When the new iPhone 5 comes out this year the question will be "Does anyone still want to buy an iPhone 3GS?". If future iOS updates don't provide all the features to a 3GS that it does in an iPhone 5, even fewer people will want the phone (likely if Apple run true to form).

Retailers will be shifting stock now while they can - and having an empty warehouse ready for the iphone 5 being announced. Personally I would buy an iPhone 4 now or wait for the new one if I was in the market for an iPhone...
