Take some responsibility for yourself for god's sake.0 -
A few years back I suffered from really bad hip pain, sounds like the same pain as one described on the OP. Walking was a nightmare but I had to do it as I had children. I lived on Ibruprofen.
I went to the doc who sent me for physio and I did loads of the excercises at home.
What actually helped? Funny enough, losing a stone and a half. I was almost 11 stone then. Now I find if I creep over 10st the niggling pain comes back which then inevitably gets worse the heavier I am. I have 2 choices - to carry on eating and be in constant pain when sitting, standing or walking, or I can cut back on what I eat and lose some weight.
Sorry but only an idiot would spend their lives in pain when all they have to do is cut back on junk food and get themsvels to a healthy weight and cure their pains. If you had heart disease would you still be eating every day in Burger King?
Oh, and OP. I never went to the gym to lose that weight either so that really is a p!ss poor excuse for not losing any weight - it took me 4 months to lose a 2 stones just by eating healthily and eating fruit instead of crisps and sweets. I had them sometimes, just not all the time. I joined weightwatchers and learned just how much crap I was putting into my mouth. Loads of stuff that you think are healthy (such as things with dried fruit in) are actually high in fats and bad for people losing weight. I used to walk to school and back (about a mile) and that was it. No more exercise. I lost the weight through not eating junk food. fizzy drinks, etc... My friend lost the same amount in the same time and she did not excersise either.
It's time to take some responsibility for your own actions and lose that weight. You are stting there blaming your dads condition for your pains but actually, it's probably the weight YOU are carrying and YOU chose to put on. Until you lose that weight you'll never know whether it is the weight or whether you have a condition. Sure they can treat you for it but it might be for nothing (as in my case) it's just because you eat too much.
And then maybe in 10 years time your child will not be pushing you around in a wheelchair while you complain of having no life.
You have a child, do the responsible thing and lose some weight so he does not have to watch you die while he is still in his teens. You might die before he gets married, before you become a grandparent, before he leaves school because - all because you are too fat and cannot stop eating and make excuse after excuse. How much more of an incentive do you actually need?
And if you CANNOT stop eating you need to go and see your doctor and ask to see a councillor and find out WHY you cannot stop eating.
There are lots of boards on this forum offering support for those losing weight. Why not get started. I would suggest joining weightwatchers (you can get quidco and just do the trial and it'll only costs a few £ but you'll have all of the books) and educate yourself into what foods are good and what are bad - this is a huge start. It gives you a points allowance and you eat this allowance a day. Just a thought, my allowance when I started was 22 points. I could eat loads during that day and I could save points each day to get a takeaway at the weekend - I could even eat crisps and chocolate each day if I wanted.
As an after thought though, just one sausage roll from a certain high street bakery was 28 points. I was gobsmaked. And when I was at work I used to have 2 of these for lunch. I still eat them but now it is occassionally - weightwatchers makes you think about WHAT you are eating. Slimming World did not work for me because you can eat anything meaty on some days - and some meats such as lamb are VERY high in fat.0 -
You people are disgusting and precisely why so many obese people stay indoors and gain more weight when they're already overweight. All the judgemental comments and disgusting language are so unecesaary. The same way I wouldn't call a disabled person a retard or call them slow is the same I wouldn't tell a fat person they ate all the pies and call them a porker etc.
The man just asked for advice I'm not surprised he didn't post again. Awful people and that's coming from a 22 year old HEALTHY And active female. This is exactly why the world is so effed up u all make me absolutely sick0 -

I walk my daughter to nursery, a distance of 1 mile round trip. My father has oesteoporosis and was wondering if I may have it too.
My partner also says that I walk like a penguin and sometimes I look like im rollerblading because of the shapes my body makes when I walk?!? and also that it looks like im trailing my bad leg behind me,.....
At the moment I am overweight, which is the main factor putting me off seeking medical advice from a GP or making a DLA claim. The problem I have is that I find exercise painful also, with the exception of swimming.
Do you think it is worth it for me to seek further advice or is it likely that any medical staff or decision makers will take the easy option and automatically tell me to lose weight first?
I feel like im in a catch 22 situation. I really would like to lose a couple of stone but the usual gym activity causes me a lot of discomfort in my legs.
thanks in advance for any replies
I have osteoporosis and my GP said it was due to being small/light.
He said that if I was overweight I would not have developed it as the weight puts extra strain on the bones which stimulates bone growth/density.
So its unlikely that your pain is due to osteoporosis, if you are worried you may be susceptible to developing it though the recommendation is to do weight bearing exercise.0 -

No one called the OP a porker?
I have just read the thread, and all but one poster (who has been banned) offered constructive advice. Hopefully the OP took some positive steps as a result - looking to improve his health (both in terms of getting a diagnosis and losing weight) rather than focusing on benefits.0 -

and who exactly are 'you people'?0 -
DLA (and it's more nasty successor PIP) is based on ones care and mobility needs. The cause/causes of those needs is secondary.0

I have, what is referred to as a "wide base of gait".
This translates as my feet stick out at ten to two and I waddle like a duck.
It's always been so. Ever since I was a kid. When I went to ballet classes, I had no problem with the foot positions in the warm up sessions.
It's physically painful to point my feet forwards for even short periods of time.
As a result of my 'John Wayne walk', I've suffered from hip, lower back and knee pain and eventually started to suffer from plantar fasciitis.
After the injection from Hell, my GP referred me to a podiatrist who measured me up, watched me walk and then fitted me with special insole orthotics.
Result. Less pain and no more needles!
I did recently suffer from a very bad back pain concentrated around my right hip as a result of my waddling efforts in the snow. My feet were working like flippers in the slush and I ended up looking like I was trying to wipe my feet on a doormat instead of actually making progress.
It was muscular pain and nothing too serious. It's cleared up.
Yes. Go to the doctor.
Yes. You'll be told to lose weight.
Yes. Your claim for disability benefits will be rejected as there's no diagnosis, no attempt at remedying the situation and you can walk at least a mile.
There's no such thing as a life without pain. Deal with it and stop expecting a handout when you won't help yourself.
Edit: Just realised this thread's been resurrected from a year ago. Sorry. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
