Insurance has gone up because another drive hit me. !!!!!!

Hi guys

Some plank hit me last year whilst i was not moving and i had to make a claim against him. I am now not able to insure my car because it has sent my premiums through the roof.

How can this be fair! I was not at fault yet iam now paying the price for someone elses stupidity!

Is there anything I can do?

I also think insurers have it in for me. I went to get a quote from tescos, on a 1.2 Citroen C2, I am male, 28, have over 10 years no claims discount and I am being quoted over £350 for a 1.2!!

My OH is 23 has 5 years and is being quoted £250, how does that work?

Calm down, take a depp breath :-)
I suspect your premiums have gone up because there was a general 30% increase last year (due to poor weather claims, person injury claims, fraud, losses, increasing costs etc.)
I suggest you do your quote on a comparison site (use false phone number and false email) without the claim and then edit and add on the claim (presumably non-fault).
I suspect your premium without the claim has gone up a lot due to general price increases and there is not much increase for the non-fault claim.

    Shop around.
    Check cashback sites.
Add on a mature driver as a named driver (mum?)

    Doesn't seem too bad.
A lot of 19 year old have quotes of £3k or more.

Are you male and your OH is female? by any chance?
If so, then I'm afraid that's why.
Try adding on a mature female driver with no claims if you know one (doesn't matter if they don't get to driver the car during the year).

Mines gone up a total of 55% in 2 years, No claims or accidents.

Wish mine was only £350, I dread next year most of my quotes were £600-£700

Similar thing happened to me some years back. I wasn't even in the car but damage was witnessed a Volvo driver reverse into my car and took the numberplate. Police contacted the driver who claimed he wsan't even in the town on the day in question until they pointed out they had an independent witness.

My cover went up because I was told statistically if you have suffered a 'claimable event' you are more likely to do so in future. A bitter pill to swallow!

Indeed! Honestly, £350 is nothing for car insurance. Get a grip OP!

im 35 female and carnt find any under 1100
  • I think we can all accept and understand that younger male drivers are going to be a higher risk.

but to say "statistically if you have suffered a 'claimable event' you are more likely to do so in future." ?

Is there any independent evidence of this.
Are they prepared to show us the 'statistics'

or is it just yet another way of ratcheting up premiums

Bob - my point in post 2 is that there is NO evidence (yet) that that the premium increase was due to the claim. We know that some insurers do not increase premiums to non-fault claims.
The OP has got quotes that show an increase which they have assumed is down to their claim.
Like a lot of newbies to this board they may not be aware of the 30% or more increase in premiums.
My guess is that it's not largely down to their claim, it's largely down to the 30% (average) increase in 2010.
Only one way to tell and that's to do a 2011 quote without the claim.

yes, but its not an isolated case, quite a common refrain on here about being more likely to claim just because someone ran in to you.

"We know that some insurers do not increase premiums to non-fault claims." and it seems a lot do - hence the many threads asking "should I report this ...... to my ins company ?"

Sounds like 'statistically' they think we are (nearly) all con artists
