  • you are taking me wrong here...I don't mind him having a day off at all!

I just thought it was funny he had to call his cold, flu.

  • According to my husband, when I have a cold it's "just a bit of the sniffles" and I'm expected to carry on as normal with the cooking, housework and so on. However, when he has a cold, it is Influenza and he has to lay on the sofa while I'm expected to wait on him hand and foot. He does apologise though, in a very feeble voice, for being such a burden.:rotfl:
  • My ex flatmate got proper flu last year, and as a result will not refer to a cold as flu now - he was in such a state for nearly two weeks, high temperature, dehydration cramps, could barely eat for the first four days (broth soups only). He did get a bad day where he kept having muscles spasms, really hardcore cramps, for several minutes at a time. I had to practically pour fluids into him to loosen him up. The leg cramps were bad and the facial spasms were terrifying (he couldn't open his eyes or move his head for a several very long minutes) but I have to admit, I had to leave the room when his testicles went into spasm.

I wouldn't have felt it appropriate to offer a massage and laughing that hard in front of him would have just been cruel.

Men get flu, children get colds, women get on with it.

women gets cold has 2 days off which is fine

man gets cold has 1 day of and gets moaned about

    talk about sexism

    also interesting http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1577

basic details - women have more days of sick than men
Yes, my husband has never taken a day of due to [STRIKE]manflu[/STRIKE]cold. However when he isn't at work eg evenings and weekend, he lays on the settee moaning for lemsips.
Very similar to what's shown here. ;)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EElqrgk4N0

I am going to make a guess that also women are more inclined to ring work and say they are sick, when it's actually their child/ren, but they don't want the hassle of their employer moaning about their childcare arrangements.

Confusing cold with flu is done by almost everyone isn't it. most people who say they've got flu haven't, unless you are sitting by their sickbed when they tell you.
You CAN'T go to work if you've got proper flu, you CAN'T go to the pub, you probably don't even have the energy to look at facebook or watch TV properly until you're recovering.
Most of the time when people say they've got flu it's just a bad cold.
ermm no. I've had flu once. In Jan 97 and I was too ill to get off the sofa and crawl up the stairs next to me, in order to get some paracetamol out of the bathroom at the top of the stairs. Have never felt like that since -thank goodness. I once had a cold that wouldn't shift for 2 months. Mainly I believe cos I had to carry on. When my husband caught it he recovered within a week, probably due to what I said in the above reply. Or did you mean 'most men who say they've got flu haven't?' :p

gosh i must be very lucky , when my hubby is poorly he never expects me to run around after him. i do of course because i love him and hate it when he's poorly.

But when he is ill he still gets up at 7 for work, he just doses himself up, he keeps going until he really can't anymore.

Last yr he was very poorly, but had a job to finish and doesn't want to give in .he did keep going. but he knew he had to call it a day when he fell asleep at work as he was so ill. he came home and didn't move off sofa for 2 days, doc called he had a very bad chest infection. course of medicine for a week and he got better to return to work. My hubby never moans about being ill. he just takes it in his stride and gets on with it. He is a really wonderful man.

Even if i'm poorly, of course he can't take time off work, but he sees to the children before work, organises my mum to get them to school and pick them up, then comes home and make dinner. and does all the housework , everything i would do on top of having a full day at work.
