Manflu

What is it with men? Why can't they ever just have a cold?

A cold has been going round our office. We've all had it. It was a very nasty full-on bad chest/lost voice/cough/snotty one. I had 2 days off with it.

The man who sits opposite me, who also had it, had a day off yesterday with 'influenza'. lol.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

You can't really say anything as by your logic you taking 2 days off for the same problem makes you more of a drama queen.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

As a general rule, male immune systems are weaker than female ones which means that they have to work harder in order to fight infections such as the cold virus. The cold virus itself presents no notable symptoms - all those symptoms associated with the cold are actually caused by the immune system fighting it off. Because of this, a male will encounter more severe symptoms, especially of the drowsiness and headache variety, whilst infected with the cold virus because of the overreaction of the immune system. Evolution has given women stronger immune systems because they need to be able to fight off infections quicker and more efficiently when child bearing and as a consequence the cold virus has a diminished capability against women.

Personally, I would be happy enough if people with colds and cold like viruses would cease spreading them all over the place. I work from home and don't get the luxury of taking a day off unless I'm in the process of losing several limbs so being infected by someone while out at the shops is a large pain in my bottom.

I have to admit in my experience (and am not saying everyone is the same before I get jumped on lol) guys do tend to make more of a big deal out of a cold then women. For example I'm at work full of a cold this week, which isn't fun, but OH is 'dying' in bed with flu. Now obviously no one can know exactly how someone else is feeling but I'm pretty sure we have the same thing :)

You may have the same virus but it isn't the virus that causes the symptoms in this case, it is your immune system, and because of this, your husband will not be experiencing the same symptoms as you.

Give him some good news, he didn't have the flu, otherwise he wouldn't feel like himself again until about the end of March ;)
  • Confusing cold with flu is done by almost everyone isn't it. most people who say they've got flu haven't, unless you are sitting by their sickbed when they tell you.
You CAN'T go to work if you've got proper flu, you CAN'T go to the pub, you probably don't even have the energy to look at facebook or watch TV properly until you're recovering.
Most of the time when people say they've got flu it's just a bad cold.
