Websaver 11 is the cheapest tariff british gas do.
Online saver 3 has energysmart that enables you to have a variable direct debit so that you only pay for what you use each month.
Each month you have to enter your meter readings. You also get an electricity monitor so that you can watch your own electricity usage and the idea is that this will help you to cut back your usage.
Have a look here http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy.html?BGBLinkID=i1003590 -
How is the Websaver 11 worked out each month for payments. Is it just a fixed amount each month based on what we have used in the last 12 months.
And Online saver 3 the direct debits will change each month.

Yeah the websaver 11 is your yearly usage divided by 12 to give you the monthly amount.
online saver 3 your payments will change each month with your usage.
Have you used the price calculator on the british gas website to see how the tariffs compare.0 -
At the minute we are on both pre payment meters for both and British gas removing these for free next week.
I will have a look at that tool on there site.
So if they work out the last 12 months and devide by 12 will they use our prepayment usage figures.

A few points also worth noting -
The actual difference in cost is Websaver 11 is a minimum of 6% below the standard rate whilst OnlineSaver 3 is 4%.
You can have your direct debit the exact same on OS3 as you can on WS11, as in spread over the year, it's not compulsory to have it variable.
The main difference between the 2 at the end of the day is that EnergySmart w/ os3 is monthly billing as opposed to quarterly.
If you want to pay for what you use variably but don't want it monthly you can also set up a quarterly variable direct debit on the websaver.
With the os3 theres no tie ins, with the ws11 theres a £30 cancellation fee per fuel if you leave before June 2012.0 -
Have decided to go with the Online Saver 3 one. Will be put on the British Gas Standard one for 2 weeks i am told after the new meters are fitted this week and then change over to this package.
uswitch gave me Online Saver 3 as the 3rd from the top. 1st and 2nd ones i did not like the switch early charges.
WOuld you suggest i take meter readings before british gas take the pre payment ones out ie a photo of the screen.
Also are the standard meters fitted and set to zero or do they match them up to my old prepayment usage figures.
Chris0 -
Yeah i would make a note of the meter readings fo my own records.
When i had a meter changed the meter was on zero when fitted.0 -
Cheers for that.

It looks like you have been given some excellent advice from Yellowcard and jessmist. :T
Looking at your brief comments,I think you have made the right choice as the energy monitor may also help you control usage and cost.
It's just a shame BG can't do the honourable thing and bill you from day 1 on the chosen tariff. It may be a procedural thing, but really it just smacks of penny pinching.0 -
Well i did not want a Tarrif with a cancellation charges and i thought the energy monitor will help us keep onto things and i like the idea of giving my own meter readings online. and to also pay each month of what i have used and not just a fixed bill.
