My god I can't believe some of these replies. Whilst a lot of you whinge on about being in debt which at the end of the day IS YOUR FAULT [apart from in cases where there is illness/job losses and by the way I've been in debt and IT WAS MY FAULT [but I've paid it off now]. These people have been putting money away each week for Christmas. Maybe getting to the bank etc wasn't an option for a lot of them - they have effectively had their money stolen. Ok I know we don't have the poverty of the third world but I feel sorry for these people. Have a bloody heart.0

I don't think getting to a bank is a problem, as many of the vouchers are high street vouchers. They paid money into an unsecured scheme. All I hear on the news is that little Jonny life is going to be ruined because he can't have a PSP for Christmas. His life will not be ruined, he can have a great Christmas without that PSP.0 -

I have debts and yes they are my fault! If they cant get to the bank to save the money put it in a jar at home. If they cant get to the shops then order online it stil gets delivered, can even get the presents delivered direct if theyre that busy or housebound.
I have a heart - one reason why I am in debt (I lent someone thousands years ago to help them out of debt its now been to court last month and agreed to pay £25 a month when I gave them a lump sum which is still all my fault I dont disput that!
I just dont understand the point of these catalogues I do feel sorry for these people.
Thanks Gofor it for the backup!0 -

I think most people who have posted on this thread has expressed that they feel sympathy for these people as well. It has just been pointed out (from people that are learning /have learnt how to spend less money at christmas and not get too carried away with it all) that to them £XXXX amount of money may seem a lot to them for christmas. Also the main ethos of the post was the donating of money, when an awful lot of other people get "ripped off everyday" and there isn't donations set up for them. And the fact that the children may not get their x-box or whatever this christmas, yes it is very sad for them to be disappointed, but pointing out that there is more to life than these materials is human nature. It is what most of us have learned by being on DFW.
What I am trying to say is that is sad this thread is turning into something a bit more bitter now, when tiff posted it in all good faith, and we replied with our opinions. No one is saying they DESERVED IT.
This is by no way having a go at backtomum by quoting her post, but I think a lot more is being read into peoples post than what is actually implied.0 -

isnt that what the op is saying? not lets think kindly of these poor people but and I quote from Op
"If you want to help, go to the website, and check out the options. I have next to nothing but it breaks my heart to think of all these families sitting there watching all the TV adverts for "The Best Christmas Ever" when they've even had the food taken from them.
with a link:mad:
well sorry if im being thick but that says "please put your hand in your pocket" to me. and then its posted on numerous boards
If you feel sorry for people who have ""invested"" their money in the wrong company then yes dig deep I personally will be giving my money to much worthier causes than this - sorry its tough but thats the way business works - many have lost thier pensions over business loss , do we do a fund for them NO
Speaking as a victim of the Farepak scandle, I can assure you that you are WRONG, not once have I asked for any handouts, true the family will struggle this christmas, but worse things do happen at sea. It is not charity handouts we the victims are looking for, nor indeed EVER asked for. We want our money back, SIMPLE AS! I personally am not interested in hand outs, or folk feeling sorry for me, as it serves me right for entrusting my money into such a scheme. But for you to say I am begging from you, or looking for some kind of sympathy is in my book touching slanderous. In my book, its not the value of a gift at xmas, but the thought behind it. My most prescous gifts are watching my Son smile when he opens his presents, whatever they maybe. And its a true saying that the Gift of love, is priceless. So what gives you the right to accuse me of begging for charity. I refuse to let Farepak ruin my Sons christmas, but I dont need you or anyone else to help me do that.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Well i am also a Farepak victim, and all these paople on this forum are saying to save money in bank it is not that easy, when you have got money in a bank in mid july and your cooker breaks you think i will use that money and put it back later,(which never happens) so when it comes to christmas you havnt got the money expected for your presents, and being a lone parent that is important to me, to give my kids a good xmas, most of the people having a go at the farepak savers, if you look at their reply you see they are in debt upto 15,000 quid, well i can say i am not, i wont buy presents i can not afford, dont get me wrong i own a credit card but will not use it if i cant pay it off that month. So using farepak to me was the easy answer i could save and couldnt touch it till november and than all my presents were bought then. WITH NO DEBT, all paid for.
I am not asking for charity just the money back that they have stollen from me, as we all know all the farepak directors will still have all their presents under the tree this year. Although my kids will get a few presents this year they will be far from what they have before in previous years, and my present list has been cut for the rest of the family.Live for today, tommorrow may never come!0 -
you two individually are not asking for handouts. the OP posted a link which was collecting money for those affected, and people are responding to this not as a personal dig.0

I am sure that I am not individual in not asking for charity, the point here is, none of the farepak victims are, yet we are being painted as doing so.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

As quite nicely put in the above post it is not the fact that we don't 'have a heart' but the fact that there have been loads of donations for the fund on the back of people saying that they 'won't have a Christmas'. That is simply not true.
They will have a Christmas but not on such a grand scale. Whilst I feel incredibly sorry for the people who have blatantly been robbed (see earlier post) they are no more deserving than the person made redundant whose mortgage protection refuses to pay out on a technical detail or someone whose business folds. Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -

Well doesnt your avatar say it all:D unfortuatately for you I believe that I am also entitled to MY opionion.
Not once did I say you personally were asking for handouts - I dont even know who you are so why would I. I did say that the OP posted a link on a number of different boards that suggest donations which she did.
I am very sorry you will struggle this christmas because of this awful situation - I have two very good friends who did not put their money with farepak but have lost their jobs with major companies in this run up to christmas - one of them may not be able to get another one because of his age although we keep our fingers crossed - I do not see campaigns to help them out - he wants a job simple as.
I would love to read scandalous post you claim I wrote where I have said you are begging from me - do not twist my words.
I hope everyone who has lost a job , lost money , lost family or had any major crisis this year manages to have a christmas even if it is not the one they had hoped for.0
