Some Farepak Help

I don't think anyone has said they don't feel sorry for the families involved....its a terrible thing to happen. But....companies go into liquidation every day of the week. People lose jobs.....i'm dealing with a company now that has just told its workforce that they won't be getting paid for November and not to come back as the business can no longer carry on. I class that as worse than what has happened at Farepak. Those poor souls have no jobs at christmas. I don't see that company on the Ten o'clock news?0

Thank you Tiff for sharing the link.
How anyone would need to save £2000 for Christmas is beyond me! I really do feel for the people who lost their money as money is money - can anyone afford to lose their money regardless of what is was saved for?!Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
100'S of children around the globe will die on christmas day due to starvation, disease, neglect and abuse. A handfull of toys is hardly a disaster, oh dear they might have to have a chicken instead of a turkey but what the hell at least they are eating that day. Fairpak collapsed 9 weeks before christmas so its not like they didnt have notice to put a few things together.0

I heard on Yorkshire TV calendar new program on Wednesday that a agent got there money back including all the customers. They paid via Debit card and did a chargeback, I though I miss heard it as I only thought you could do that with credit cards not debit cards. She said that she got this infor from a web site I wonder which one.

Christmas is back on for a group of Farepak customers in Leeds after getting all their money back.
Cathie Rhodes, a former agent for the hamper company which collapsed last month, made all her Farepak payments online using her visa debit card. She then discovered that anyone who pays by visa for goods that don't turn up can be reimbursed.0 -
I'm glad at least some of these people are getting their money back. I agree that ideally all should get their money back, because it's their money that has been lost after all.
But....maybe I've misunderstood the concept? You pay £50 in and you get ....£50 worth of food back? (Or maybe less). Is that correct? Why not just buy it from Asda or somewhere?
I appreciate you can pay £1 a week...but you could save that up in a savings bank or even in a jar at home . I'm sure you will get more for your money if you do it yourself.
What's the point?
I'm not meaning to offend anyone, but I can't even see how these hamper companies got any customers to start with! Maybe it's me?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

That completely goes against all the info that the banks have provided. I wonder if Yorkshire TV got their debit and credit cards mixed up?0 -
Why is there so much criticism of the amounts people saved for Christmas with Farepak ? What people do do with their cash is their business , as is how they chose to save it.
(I see stories all the time about pyramid schemes but when are you, "Joe Public" going to understand that everything in our society is based on a pyramid.)
It's the poor bu**ers at the bottom who are ripped off by everyone above them. The big boys are always first at the trough when a business goes bust. Employees & customers never get a look in. The banks are the worst for bringing a business to its knees. I've lost good jobs several times (and a good house) because of banks. I've also lost hundreds of pounds in this FarePak fiasco. Am I surprised ? No. Am I bitter? Maybe. Will I get my money back? Well, I lost 40 grand when I lost the house 11 years ago. Have I got it back ? Every penny. The are more ways to skin a rabbit , my old grannie used to tell me. My advice to everyone is, IGNORE THE HAMPER BUSINESS NEXT YEAR. Put your money in a jar for christmas.
BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY0 -
This Farepack issue is really getting at me now.
Single mum in paper today, lost £900. She's upset as son wanted ipod AND a phone, younger son wanted similar stuff. Christmas is ruined, etc etc.
She is on a limited income. I know there are the commercial pressures of Christmas, but as pointed out shouldn't people be thankful for their families? Some children will die on Christmas day because they have no food.
This woman was paying £50 a fortnight to get £1000 vouchers. Now wouldn't it had been a better bet to put £50 a fortnight into a savings account,if and actually get interest. Then they could actually draw cash to spend and not be restricted to vouchers.
Companies go bust and that is a fact of life. There is a risk with giving these hamper companies money, your money is only safe in a bank. People lose money in many ways, like pyramid schemes etc.
This should be a lesson to people. They should understand the true value of Christmas. I am sick of seeing this whip-round because people are too stupid to save their money in a bank.0 -
Personally I dont understand these catalogues.
Why not just open a savings account and put x amount in each week / month as you would send to the christmas fund then take it out in a lump sum in December and spend it in proportion on food, gifts and vouchers?
Put it in the right account and a little extra interest could be earnt to start off the next years savings scheme.
