From what I remember from working at Sky, the multiroom box must be connected to a phone line, at all times even after the initial contract runs out. Someone can correct me on this if I'm wrong.
If I'm right, it means that even if the engineer who installed the multiroom didn't connect the phone line, it is your responsibility to make sure it's connected.
I don't know why its taken them so long to notice though, hopefully someone else can shed light on this?

Can't say why they've only found out now, but it is (and always has been) part of the multiroom T&C's that you have both boxes connected to a phone line. This continues as long as you pay for a multiroom sub.Dave. :wave:0

Just thinking about this more, did they not send any letters out to say your box wasn't connected? I remember they used to send several letters before they would actually cancel the account.
All letters sent out are recorded on their system, so they should be able to prove that they did send letters. Or you can use it to prove they didn't, if you haven't received any from them

You don't have a leg to stand on. Sky will take you to court for their money.taffyboyo74 wrote: »sky have sent me a bill for my mutli room for £43.00 as they say it was not connected to a phone line for 2 months but when i looked there is no phone line in the back and i have never removed one i dont remember the engineer putting one in there i have had sky for 18 mths now so why is there only been a problem with the last 2 months and not 18 mths i am refusing to pay this and they have cut me off where do i stand over this and has anyone else had this problem with sky over the phone line conneceted to the boxes
You have (had) a contract with BSkyB which, in order to allow you to benefit from the reduced multiroom subscription(s) of £10/month, requires(d) you to ensure all boxes remain(ed) connected to the same telephone line at all times.
Perhaps the 'engineer' (he was a fitter, not an engineer BTW) should have fitted the cables but the contract is yours, not his, so it is (was) your responsibility.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I have to say when I got my Sky+ HD fitted last year (no multiroom), the T&Cs stated that my box must be connected to the phone line at all times. The engineer briefly connected the box during installation, but then removed the cable and took it with him, telling me that the box definitely did not need to be connected. However, being the worrier I am, I bought a cable and connected it anyway.
Naughty that they are not installing phone cables if this can be the impact.0 -

If you only have a single box (or multiple boxes without the extra subscription), there is no need for the box to be connected to the phone line.
The multiroom agreement is supposed to stop people paying £10/month multiroom sub and then giving the box to their friends/family who could get the same channels as your current sub for only £10.Dave. :wave:0
