Significant Bulging to the Gable End Wall

I've just had a val done on my house and the report has come back saying it has significant bulging of the brick work particurlarly to the gable wall. Whilst this may be associated with the need for cavity wall tie replacement, we feel it is essential that the property is inspected by a structural engineer.

Any one know what could be CAUSING THIS PROBLEM? Could this be a very serious problem?

I will get it properly looked at but until I do, I'd like to know what could be causing it and how much its likely to cost to fix - assuming it can be fixed?

Thank you for pointing my previous post out but I have now got over the shock of it and would now like to know the TECHNICAL side of it? What could be causing the problem? I don't see what is wrong with this question?

Well, it sounds like your gable end wall is bulging. It COULD be that the cavity wall ties need replacing, but the best thing to do would be to get a structural engineer to have a look.

    Is the wall rendered?

*Sigh* I've amended my post as I'm trying to learn about what could be causing the problem here guys.

The wall hasn't been painted if that is what you mean by rendering pararct.
  • The wall has moved away from the rest of the house. Perhaps it's just had a tiff with the other gable, but I doubt it. It could be that the ties that keep the two wall skins equidistant have deteriorated and allowed the outer wall to move, it could be that defective roof joists have caused uneven weight distribution, it could be that the two adjacent walls have moved in such a way that extra pressure is being applied to the gable end, it could be mild (or even severe) subsidence, it could be a construction issue with either the build or materials used, it could be very severe frost damage, it could be a faulty instrument used by the surveyor, locusts, plagues of locusts, the dog ate it, it's in the post, honest!

It could be any of a hundred different reasons, some trivial, some serious, some critical. But an opinion from a money saving message board, based on not even a glance at a photo, probably isn't going to be as reliable as that of an on-site structural engineer.
  • I've found another forum where I am getting all the info I need to learn about this issue - without the sarcasm. So feel free to post all the sarcasm you want guys because I won't be back now to check any of it.
  • Good luck with that. Perhaps your next medical could be done via email too? No? Thought not.
