Just hide it. It's not required for a Home user.
  • Hi,

I got notification of that update yesterday, havn't installed it yet, as didn't recognise any of the components.
  • What about for future updates that are important?

I've seen similar issues before where it kept saying I needed update KBnnnnnn then came up with an error trying to install it which leads you on a merry dance trying to chase down the reason and find a fix. In the end I simply ignored the problem and eventually it went away.
  • As long as its not being a nuisance and popping up with messages I can live with it.

Well I had other updates to install. Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.99.94.0)
    Installation date: ‎25/‎02/‎2011 10:02
    Installation status: Successful
    Update type: Optional

System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) [February 2011]
    Installation date: ‎25/‎02/‎2011 13:42
    Installation status: Successful
    Update type: Important
This tool is being offered because an inconsistency was found in the Windows servicing store which may prevent the successful installation of future updates, service packs, and software. This tool checks your computer for such inconsistencies and tries to resolve issues if found.

I think we found the solution. I will try and install the update that was causing the problem. They seem to have installed ok so that's good.

I tried again but it still failed. I'm not going to worry too much about it. I was more concerned that I wouldn't be able to get any updates installed which I know is important for security. Thank you again for all your suggestions.

It might be worth trying to delete the downloaded update thats failing to install and then letting the system redownload it it may just be a corrupted download. Follow these instructions to delete the download your are trying to install. It's cured my install problems in the past.
