Just looking for a 1GB Sony pro duo. Play.com are selling at £16.99 and plenty on Ebay for a tenner with power sellers. Is it still advised to stay with genuine retailers?

For £28.70 (using Google Checkout), you can get a 4GB Sandisk card from MemoryBits:

Thanks but I'm not convinced that 1GB is needed. I use a 256MB on a 5MP camera and it holds 100 shots easily.

My folks have just bought a 7MP camera and have asked me to order a card. Tempted to get them a 256MB off ebay for a fiver.

Are the Sandisk ones the same specifications as the Sony ones in terms of speed and reliability? Do you think all the Sandisk ones on eBay are genuine or could they be fakes too?

XL shops has a 2gb one with adapter for £18

I have used them before and had no problems
  • Hi,

    This is my experience recently.

Bought a 2GB Sony Pro Duo High Speed Memory Stick on eBay for £15.00 inc. del. The packaging looked professionally printed as did the printing on both sides of the stick itself. After reading the eBay guides to spotting fakes I saw the telltale '3 round glue seals on each side of outer packaging' clue. In fact the product code on the stick did not match the code on the packaging (one code was Pro Duo, one was Pro Duo High Speed). I took it to a Sony shop (run by Sony) and the guy there thought it looked genuine until he compared it with one on the shelf.

It went back for a refund.

Second attempt I thought I'd try a more reputable place to buy and paid £32.50 inc. del. for the same product from Rebelio a seemingly large online seller. This too was a fake with the same incorrect packaging clue but amazingly it also had the same incorrect stick code to packaging code problem just like the eBay one. I wrote the serial number of the eBay one down and the Rebelio one was again identical.

It went back for a refund (yet to receive it though)

Third attempt I tried memorybits.co.uk (mentioned in this thread) and saw the Google Checkout £10 off offer.
The memory stick arrived loose in a jiffy bag with no retail clear plastic packaging at all. Tested in a PSP it proves likely to also be a fake as it shows up as "MagicGate Unknown", one of the markers for fakes.

Good luck it's a mean world out there.

    Dave
