Just pay the £400 as it's cheaper than half of the £2000 that they've offered to pay.
The £400 was a credit if it was a data bundle not a charge wasn't it ???

If it was me in the OPs place knowing that i had used the phone and data i would first off all try to get a breakdown of the bill . Check to see if i could spot an error . No error and checking charges correct i would pay the bill . So in that respect i would not have even got as far as a reduction . So snap their hands off is what i would do .

Although it's still an awful lot of money, £1500 is a massive reduction on the total outstanding bill, so I would bite the bullet and accept their offer while it's there.

Data roaming charges are definitely an area where the mobile networks have been ripping us off, but if you've used the data I don't think you have any option but to pay up and chalk it down to experience. If I go abroad I keep my phone switched off most of the time because I know any use will be charged at a premium rate.

Nothing like the vultures gathering, is there? What a bunch!

Let's unroll this a bit. OP came on here for some advice/opinion about how to try to save money and whether or not to take the Orange offer. Money saving is what this forum is about.

OP stated that he was aware that charges might run to hundreds, so there is no "I didn't know that overseas data cost money". He got a £3000 bill and asked our help as to whether or not to accept the Orange offer

DUTR - if you don't really care, then why bother commenting except to be critical. And you have no reason to question whether this is a knocking Orange Troll post. OP has not knocked Orange at all.

Grumbler - well at least this time you haven't called a handset a headset! You may be right in what you write here, but you are not exactly helping are you?

OP writes "Is this as good as it gets? Other people seem to have had a full refund, and we're still talking £1500 phone bill - should I pursue it further or take it?" Well Rusty! has given his opinion on why people have got 100% refund (Iphone problems), and, given that Orange has offered 50% discount, if it was me, I would take it.

Because.... this is a great forum and offers great collective knowledge and advice to those that really need it, I'm sorry but even upon my ad hoc visits, there are too many chancers trying to blag their way out of contracts or commitments, only bit the poster missed to get maximum points was tha he has an iphone :o, are you saying the Ops final chapter would have been different should he have subscribed to any of the competing networks?
I'm not even a graduate, but if I'm goingaway and envisage high usage, then a local payg sim is the only way, just a little common sense is required and as the OP is a long time lurker, how could he have not been aware, he is the maker of his own peril on this occasion

Look, I am not is disagreement with any of your points. However, unlike some poster who whine about roaming, OP accepts that there would be and anticipated a charge, but was surprised at the amount.

OP didn't dispute his liability, but asked our opinion on whether to accept the Orange offer or not. He didn't knock Orange in his post.

Seems under these circumstances OP didn't deserve a lecture that actually provided him with no additional knowledge. I suspect that he has already learned a lesson before posting here.

However silly, stupid or irresponsible you may think OP has been, £3000 is a hell of a lot of money and way outweighs the value of the service received, so I would prefer to offer a more positive opinion rather than heap more criticism on his shoulders when he is already aware of the error.

I see your point, sometimes the world cannot offer answers wrapped up in a cotton padding, £3k is a large amount and deducting £50 for the tarif, and assuming £6/mb that is still near 500mb of data (more than a month for many users) perhaps there is some error on his billing, if not and orange have agreed to share some of the cost, then yes he should snatch the offer and learn from his mistake
