Swift are a good first early so are ready very early and a nice salad spud.

Completely agree with Charlotte and Kestrel recommendations - or Wilja in place of Kestrel.

I had good success with Sharpe's Express in buckets last year. however I'm not doing them again as they broke apart when cooking, no matter what I tried. Tasted delicious though. This year I have got lady Christl.

For maincrop I did Rooster in the large potato bags, 3 to a bag, however I also planted 1 in a bucket as an experiment and the weight yield per potato was the same, so this year I am doing everything in buckets (the big potato bags were just too annoying for me and hard to empty without making a huge mess). Rooster was delicious whatever way we cooked it but most got used as oven chips, delicious.

I'll second Roosters. I grew them last year in the re-useable bags for life Supermarket bags & they where great & a good all round potato for roasting & chipping etc. For salad pots I did Belle De Fontenay & Emerald Vale the same way & also had success with both of them too, I was happy as it was my first year potato growing. Just hope this year is as good!

Electra are truly awful, combining as they do the worst of all worlds. Roosters are one of the best all rounders. Wilja are so-so. King Edwards are the ultimate masher and roaster.

Am really pleased with my chits this year - they are on a northish facing windowsill, and they are small eager and plump.

I would also recommend Charlotte, they were a really good cropper and full of flavour last year.

    This year I am growing...

    Anya
    Blue belle
    Charlotte
    International kidney

All chitting nicely in the garage!!

Thank you guys for all the recommendations..

Anya sounds very good (for new potato-boil if I understand correctly?), failing that Charlotte,
and Rooster it is for chippy/mashed ones I think?
