New boiler quote from British Gas

I live in a small, 2 bedroom bungalow, and was recently quoted £3100 for a new boiler by British Gas! That was just for a middle of the range boiler and a new flue - nothing else. People I've spoken to reckon it's way over the top and so I'm getting more quotes in.

Yesterday I phoned British Gas to ask to speak to a manager to query my quote - the person on the phone said she'd ask him/her to phone me to discuss it - haven't heard a word back. Now there's a suprise.

What sort of price would be reasonable - I just can't believe £3100 is reasonable, especially since, on their website, they're saying
"So you could now get a new energy efficient boiler fully installed from just £1,900, giving you the same quality and service for less"

Should be more like £1000/£1500. Never use BG for boiler installations.

BG wil regularly quote 30-40% more. Get some quotes from a local recommended RGI GSR.
You can easily check the boiler price online and then calculate what you are being quoted for installation.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • A new condensing boiler (4 bed house) cost me £1900 installed by my good local Heating Engineer . Got his details from Checkatrade.

  • It's a total rip off frugalpam. I really don't know why people pay BG these ridiculous prices.

Thanks for your replies - and yes, the quoted price is a total rip off, and British Gas won't be getting my custom! I'll get more quotes in and will be expecting to spend a lot less!
  • We are having a new installation next week, 3 days labour quoted, Baxi Duotech 28kw, 1 new double rad and pipework off rad upstairs to feed it, a new gas supply to replace old lead one from gas meter to boiler, flue, making good of flue, removal of old airing cupboard and tanks etc and 10 TRV's and a chemical flush, think it came in at £3400 so yes WAY overpriced.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Nobody knows the boiler specc'd, nobody knows the house, access, requirements, type of system etc etc so anyone giving you an idea of price is talking out of their backside. Get more quotes and barter them all down off the back of each other, inc. bg he should have left his number on the quote.
