Hi all,
I am currently unemployed due to recently having a baby in August. I dont recieve any maternity allowence or anything due to only been in a temporary job for 5month at the beginning of last year. The only money I recieve is the generaly child benefit and and £20 off child tax credits.
My partner is in full time employment and is earning £18,000 a year before tax. And obviously I have a 5month old son. Does anyone know what I am entitled to?? Any help will be much appreciated.

Put your income figures into the Benefits checker at http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx
However, I suspect you are getting your entitlement - CB and a low rate of CTC - as your partner is not low paid at £18,000.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Are you looking for work or a SAHM?Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
Child tax credits seems a little low, what info' did you tell tax credits with regards to previous years income and current income.
Do you rent and if so will probably get a little help with rentForums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I am looking for part time work as my son is only 5month. And with regards to tax credits the info we gave them was just off my partners p60. And no we dont rent we have a mortgage.0

My calculation based on income of £18000 for a couple with a child under 1 is £66 per week approx.
Have HMRC taken your income before becoming a mum into consideration.
Work out through partners pay slip how much he is going to eARN this tax year and your income from april 6th 2010 and contact tax credits to check entitlement (0845 300 3900)Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Thanks allen. I will get onto that tomorrow when I do the benfeits checker it does say I should be entitled to more tax credits than I am actually getting will that be child tax credit or working tax credit. I hardly had any income in 2010 as I started a temp job in Jan and finished end of April due to pregnancy related issues will that matter.0

In the calculation there was a minimum amount of Working Tax Credits (about £2) but this may passport you and partner to free prescription/dental costs.
Ask what income have they used to work out your award, have you still got your award documents.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Hi Lordan
Forgot to mention, check your own income for this year and what income tax you paid, you may be entitled to a refund.

Doesn't the OP get free dental and prescriptions for 12 months after the baby is born anyway? It may have changed.....but I did even though the baby had been born in Canada and moved here when he was 3 months old.0 -
I was thinkin' more for the partner being entitled and not knowing, a person who has had a pregnancy in the past 12 months can apply for an exemption certificate on a form (FW8) available from her GP, midwife or health visitorForums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0
