Advice about delay in sending item out....

  • ok thanks for advice, i spoke to the person whose phone it was and said they would have to pay the fees for me since i listed it for them so they said they would ask their son in law when they came tomo to help download stuff and could mail it fri.

I emailed buyer to apologise again and ask if fri would be suitable to mail it (which is 5 days after auction ended) and they were not happy. I gave them the option tho if they wanted to cancel that they could but if i didnt hear from them id send it friday.

Heard from them and they want to cancel so i send a cancel request. Can i refund via paypal direct without having any word from buyer on this request via ebay. Never had to do this before.

    Advice would be appreciated

    Thanks
  • I found an option to refund in paypal which i did and the buyer says he was hoping for an instant payment. As far as i was aware it was instant. What has happened? does anyone know?

    TIA
  • all good, he says it came through, must have been a wee delay.Case closed. Thanks for all advice.
  • You can refund direclty via paypal yes, you will be lucky if he selects to cancel and does not mark it incorrectly so that you do not get your fees back as he seems to be a little impatient/unhappy with the scenario. Are you really only on the 3rd day after the auction ended? if so I think you may have been too quick to cancel, depending on what your dispatch is down as I think within 5 days of auction end - whilst keeping the buyer updated - is not the worst in the world.

seller contacted me to ask if they could pick up the phone but pay by paypal on the same night

Nobody mentions this portion of the OP - isn't this the common standard paypal/collection scam? ie. seller pays by paypal, collects in person then claims INR? Expecially if this was an iphone or such! I think seller may have narrow escaped a scam here especially as buyer was so quick to want to cancel.

Hi thanks, i refunded directly via paypal but yes i got the impression he seemed a little impatient...he was wanting to pick the item up straight after it ended but hadnt made any enquiry prior to end as to if he was the winning bidder could this be possible. So i think that even three days was too much wait.

I refunded but since i did i received a message to say he has tried to open a buyer protection case?If i have already refunded could i risk having the paypal refund him again since we agreed to cancel i dont have a RM number as he said not to send the item.

Anyone know how this buyer protection case works?

    TIA

I did think that was a bit odd and potential to be scammed but then i said i would mail it out to which he said was ok.

I got a message which only appeared today in my inbox (says sent 22nd) saying he tried to open a buyer protection case (the 2nd day after auction) but its too early for it to go through ebay said so to contact the buyer. I have refunded him but what would happen if he opens a buyer protection case later on? Not sure how many days it needs to be before this will be allowed. Worried that even thought ive refunded he can claim item not received or somat and get twice his money back.

    Could this happen??
  • He can't open a buyer protection case as Ebay will know that the payment is refunded via Paypal HTH
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

You cannot cancel the sale all you can do is refuse to send it and take the neg, you also get to pay all the ebay fees of course.
Even worse, the buyer could do a Non Performing Seller report to eBay, which may affect the OP's ability to sell if they get too many (I think it's 3???) of them ...
