Advice about delay in sending item out....

Dear all ebayers..

I recently sold a mobile phone on ebay which got a good price. As soon as the auction ended which was over the weekend the seller contacted me to ask if they could pick up the phone but pay by paypal on the same night as the auction ended so no advance warning. I was unsure as to if this is ok to do but i didnt get the message til monday as i was away for the weekend, then i got another message saying i can post it out.

The person i was selling it for is unsure how to clear all the data and is now saying they dont want to sell until they can wipe their info and numbers. (moral:dont sell for anyone else) So now i am in a situation and not sure what to do. I know i will prob end up with negative feedback but just want to sort it out the best i can.

Buyer asks why they have not received it yet and are not happy to wait but not sure how to cancel the sale if this is the case.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Just tell the person who owns it to do a factory reset on the phone and that will clear all the data on it.This way you can sell it and everyones happy.

But the person who has the phone is not very phone savvy and wants to keep the numbers, pictures etc on it so far. They said they can get someone to help them with it but wont be til next week and the buyer says he doesnt want to wait and says he is going to give a neg regardless.

So how do i go about cancelling the sale? is there a special form to fill in via ebay?
  • I doubt your buyer would be willing to cancel the sale.

Indeedy i am in a pickle....

I feel a big fat neg coming....boo hoo my first one. Just not sure how to end the sale via ebay? and if i do will the fees be returned?

It was a pretty sought after phone so the person was happy with the price it went for. Not wanting to say what it was though just a bit funny about that kinda stuff and being searchable to some other people reading the thread. sorry no offence to you.

    TIA

What phones is it? alot of phones allow contact to be put to sim and photos etc to be transferred to either a memory card or pc.

So does that mean i cant cancel the sale if the buyer doesnt agree to? what would happen then, stil send it out for the buyer to send it back?

    What happens in these situations?

You cannot cancel the sale all you can do is refuse to send it and take the neg, you also get to pay all the ebay fees of course. You could try a mutual to regain your fees, but I doubt there are many buyers who would agree to that having been strung along for so long.

Also if you do decide to send it remember that you lose all paypal seller protection if you do not ship within 7 days of payment.

if they do not agree to a mutual (to cancel the sale) then the sale stands, if they have paid it needs to be shipped within 7 days of payment to give you seller protection. If they pay but do not receive it they can open a dispute against you. Why would the buyer send it back? how long have they been waiting?

No matter what I think you'll be getting negative feedback and very low stars and depeneding on how much/often you sell that may cripple your account anyway.
