Sad to say, but the more you pay the better they are
Spear & Jackson for instance?
But as many not now made in Sheffield the quality may not be as it was when I had mine
I did get stainless steel as well, so if you can afford it that is worth looking intoEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Next time I'm going for a bulldog spade or fork. I've tried loads of others including spear & jackson and they are mostly without exception a load of junk. Including stainless, which seems to bend easier than normal forged steel.
I like what I see from Bulldog, hopefully they'll live up to my expectations.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I've got a Spear & Jackson stainless steel spade & fork, they are great and i'd really reccomend them.0

I have Homebase cheapo fork and a spear and jackson spade, both have done me well, including digging over a new allotment plot.0

We need a new fork as well, as it snapped in two when OH was clearing the [STRIKE]soil[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]clay [/STRIKE] mud from the roots of the stumps.
And it was not cheap one - we only bought it last year, it was rather expensive, can't remember the brand - not shop 'own', we bought it either from B&Q or some garden centre, but can't remember which. I am a bit annoyed that it is now in 2 pieces and we need to buy another one!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

ive snapped, broken , bent etc etc 6 forks of varying quality and brands during the last 2 yrs on my very very rocky allotment. The brands are almost irrelevant and Id say just go for the cheapest you can except for yes maybe the bulldog brand and perhaps the wolf ones but you really are looking at quite a few quid for those. Its not worth it to me they will still break or snap or bend on me lol0

Taking in to account chances of injury when breaking tools, time lost when fixing them or being unable to use them, annoyance when the tools not working properly and the general cheap build feel, I reckon £40 for a fork isn't that bad.
That's about the cost of two S&J stainless forks, which my last one (a replacement sent by S&J) lasted 10 minutes. Junk.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
