Manchester to Honolulu

A friend is looking to make a trip from Manchester to Honolulu on April 20th to approx May 1st, the best price she's getting at the moment is £832 and going via Chicago and LA.

Can anyone do any better than this?

Also in Chicago she has 2 hours between flights, should this be plenty of time to clear customs?

  • Two hours should be enough, but any delays and she will start to have problems!

Has she looked at flights via San Francisco? I went London - San Fran - Honolulu, which would save her a connection, and might work out cheaper.

Try Expedia, Opodo, or once she has quotes from them, go to the airlines direct and see what you can get from them.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

If she misses the flight, is there another one with the same airline the same day?

An agent such as www.trailfinders.com may have a flight+hotel deal, but this may need at least one night in a hotel.

I like Chicago, a great city, worth spending sometime there if they can.

£832 is exactly what I get on Kayak: http://www.kayak.co.uk/flights/MAN-HNL/2011-04-20-flexible/2011-05-01-flexible

I'd recommend more than 2 hours in Chicago. It can get very busy - and with such long back-to-back flights it's nice to have a little time to stretch your legs and relax.
  • My advice would be to stop over in califonrnia or vegas for a night on each leg as it is a long way from memory 5.5 hours from vegas on top of the trans atlantic part

i had few days in vegas on way out and then a few in san fran on way back, taking in to account check in times, amount of time between flights and then flight times it is a long long time travelling without breaking it up
  • She doesn't want to do any nights staying over and just wants to get there in one journey so to speak (even if there is a few changes)

Rather her than me. It's a very long way to be stuck in a pressurised metal tube. I think I'd rather spend a little more and do an overnight stop in LA so that I arrive in Hawaii more refreshed - but everyone is a different traveller.
  • I know but as you say, everyone travels different, I'd prefer to just get there too and do without stopovers, unless it was somewhere I hadn't been before or really wanted to visit

  • Can't find on way out, but only single change carrier I can see is AA via Chicago (12 hours stopover on the return). To give you an idea of distance & time, it'll be over 29 hours from Take Off to Landing.

Get it down to about 23 hours with BA (double change, uses AA Codeshare from LA). Or if cheapness is important, go KLM/Delta a few days later in both directions for about £745.
  • Cheers Moonchild, will pass the details on.

She was going to try the Flight Centre too as they do a promo around beating any other price!

Which website did you use to find the £745?
