Hello you - long time no speak. Hope you are all well.
Great to hear you have managed to get DF and graduate to here. You should be able to motor along now.
We are having a quiet half term here too. The boys are recovering from chicken pox and i am potty training my DS2. Other than that, like you a bit of crafting, a bit of baking, too much telly watching.
Nice to see you. xx0 -
Welcome,
I actually remember reading your diary last year. I know you , you don't know me I was lurking back then !
I wish you every success and look forward to reading more from you
xI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
More welcomes! Thanks guys, good to be here! Iris - didn't really think anyone read my old diary - please do not let it cloud your view of me! lol
Special little wave over to Michelle as well.
Not much to report today but one thing I found motivating on my DFW diary was to list my positives for the day so shall do that here if thats ok.
1. Third thing gone onto Ebay this morning (from yesterday one has a bid a £10 and 5 watchers and the other 4 watchers - woohoo!)
2. Had a NSD yesterday and didn't use the car either
3. Will edit and add something later - I will do something!!!
Boys off out with mum today so I really do need to get some work done. DS1 wants to go on the 'bendy tram' tomorrow so will have a trip into next city but have got some money saved from the child benefit to pay for that (try and save it each time and use it for swim lessons, shoes, nappies, trips, etc). Shouldn't be too expensive as only have to pay for me to ride and then a bit of lunch for us, will take them into toy shops and maybe a ride in the town square.
Right, uni work beckons but will update with my 3rd thing later.Trying to do one positive thing (however how small) per day to be mortgage free/reduced and be frugal but still enjoy life!Debt LBM Feb 2010 = £7841.97/ now £0, MFW 2011 = £9k in savings
MFW target 2012 to save £11,000 for Over Payments/fill ISA's and reduce lots of things - outgoings, alcohol, waste, weight0 -
Well never made it back yesterday with what I achieved - it was nothing by the time I did my OU work and some housework! Apart from not buying a bottle of wine last night as I very tempted.
Been to the big smoke today and had a lovely time with the LO's. Think I've spent about £20 cash all in - lunch, tram fare, sweeties, treats - but not too bad. Only money I've really spent this half term and good day out. However I have put £23 on my credit card for ELC bits so that will need paying off. Put the BM on its timer before we left this morning for pizza dough so HM for tea tonight, nice and cheap meal.
Ebay looking good - 8 watchers on one, 5 on another so all positive there.
Had a credit card statement today of £0 for the card we had all the debt on last year so going to DH to cancel that tonight. Now got a Tesco 0% purchase one I use for anything (and try and put aside the cash!). Nice feeling to be able to cancel the card in clearing so much debt in under a year.
Haven't managed any MFW bits at all today - must try better tomorrow! MIL just rang to ask if the DS's can go to theirs tomorrow and sleepover...I am in shock!! So tomorrow is going to be a big clean up day, tackle the garage, house and garden ready for spring. Hoping I can find a few bits to do something MSE with. And maybe if DH works hard enough we'll go out for a curry tomorrow night.Trying to do one positive thing (however how small) per day to be mortgage free/reduced and be frugal but still enjoy life!Debt LBM Feb 2010 = £7841.97/ now £0, MFW 2011 = £9k in savings

Hi! Welcome to MFW. I also made it over from DFW. We have a big mortgage compared to many here so it all seems a bit daunting! Every bit helps though!2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0

Perhaps we should form a six digit mortgage club? DFW to MFW is one of the best testaments to Martin I can think ofDebt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0

Thanks for your comment Jellie and Katsu - suppose it just means we have a longer haul than others but thats the choice we made when we signed that contract! As you say every little bit helps, even though it just seems mammoth task to OP something that will make a difference. Have subscribed to your diaries, wish I had more hours in the day so I had to comment as well as just reading everyones. Jellie thats amazing targets you have there and well done Katsu for getting DF!
Had a great day yesterday. Kids off at MIL so the garden and garage are looking good and DH did two runs to the tip with rubbish. Feels so much more like spring is on the way - can't wait. Yesterdays downside is we went out for a curry last night but suppose it was a cheap way to go out for a meal plus we only had a pint each to drink instead of a bottle of wine shared (trying to cut back to make myself a bit more 'stable' mood-wise). But although I obviously do want to MF I think I need to find the balance as I can't live without treats and doing nice things with DH and the kids - I still want to enjoy life a bit and I'm lucky enough to be able to do both at the minute.
Todays tasks are
1. DH finish building the flatpack
2. Tackle playroom and fit it in
3. WM already on and want to dry it on line
4. finish Asda order
MFW things achieved
1. Eat sunday lunch at in laws (big saving there!)
2.
Ebay is doing ace! One has 17 watchers (OMG!!), one 8, and one 2 and all have bids on. Put two more items on there tea time yesterday, got them straight out the garage cleaned up and on there before I changed my mind and one has sold already and winner coming at tea time to collect! Hopefully £7.50 for it. The other has a watcher so fingers crossed it goes. So junk that was sitting around doing nothing is already looking like it'll make a nice amount to put in the OP pot.
Back later to edit what I've done.Trying to do one positive thing (however how small) per day to be mortgage free/reduced and be frugal but still enjoy life!Debt LBM Feb 2010 = £7841.97/ now £0, MFW 2011 = £9k in savings

Welcome to MFW.
I was a DFW for many years, then last year I became a 6 figure MFW and this month I became a 5 figure MFW. This will.change back to 6 figures when we upgrade to a bigger house later this year.
I'm currently eBaying in the interests of decluttering and raising funds. Have you got any other plans for saving or is it just as much as you can.0 -
I am first time poster although i have been lurking for quite some time now.
I too am a six figure MFW.
In these uncertain times we are saving some fall back cash.Once i am satisfied with that amount i will start to OP on the morgage( will begin probably later on this year)
We have three children and have been through various financial positions but with the general state of the country(including the recent changes put in place) i have never been so worried about our future generally.
However a positive attitude to your life including finances is the way forward.
We have saved lots of money thanks to lots of advice on this website.
I love this site an each time i plough a little deeper through it i learn something new or pick up a new tip.
So thank you to all that have helped and a big thank you for all the future help.x

It sounds like you have a very low interest rate on your mortgage. Wouldnt you be better putting what you would be over paying into a bank account that pays more (there a few around). Only then when your mortgage interest rate goes up above the interest youre earning on the savings account - then over pay your mortgage? Im in a similar position and have decided to do this.0
