Printer stops working when new toner req

I have a Brother printer which just literally stops working when it requires new toners. With all previous printers I have been able to keep using it until I manage to get out and get another toner, but this is really irritating!

Anyone got any ideas how I can keep using it?

  • Can you take it out, shake it then put it back in?

I do that with my ink cartridges in my Brother printer & it seems to fool it for a little while. :o

No - as I say it doesnt work with this. I used to be able to do that with previous printers, but this one just stops, tells me I need a new toner and refuses to print until I change it.

This sounds like a sneaky method of ensuring you have always purchased a spare cartridge, ready for when the current one is empty...

Alot of printers will not run until the new cartridge has been installed as it uses all of the toner.

    Ha ha.

Not the same at all. You can usually get a few more pages out of toners. I could run my old one for about another 2 weeks.

That's what I do with my Samsung laser, but my Cannon inkjet multi won't even scan when one of the cartridges is empty, even if it both are not required i.e colour empty but scanning in B&W.
  • Same with my HP colour laser printer.......one of the colour cartridge runs out & it will not print anything not even a black & white page.
Like you I find this a bit of a pain..........

Exactly the same. The Fiesta that stops running won't have a bone dry tank - there's usually a litre swilling around but too low level to pick it up.

The reason Brother do this is so that you don't get prints with bits missing. Imagine how much paper it would waste if you set off a print run of 500 with a nearly empty toner and you ended up with blank bits over every page.
