Flower buckets - unlucky!

After reading great things about flower buckets on here I attempted to get some for myself but had no luck whatsoever!

I tried Waitrose and was told they reuse them. Got the same response from Asda. I tried Morrisons who I thought would be a definite as I've read in loads of places that they sell 8 for 99p but when I asked, they said "No we can't sell those!". Then I noticed that they weren't even black buckets but green square ones.

Was there some sort of secret password I should have used to be initiated into the flower bucket club? :rotfl:

Maybe things are different in Wales.. Anyone had any success getting flower buckets in South Wales? Could also try Hereford if anyone's had success there.

I'd like the buckets to grow my early potatoes in as I'll be growing them on a patio area which gets the sun. I read good things about doing one seed potato to a bucket. Alternatively, does anyone have any ideas for growing early potatoes cheaply? Was going to try some rubble sacks I have but they are shallower than I thought they'd be. Will this work?

Morrison's certainly do 8 for 99p as I've bought them (in the flower/plant section) but they'd be no good for spuds - too small. Rubble sack should work. Or how about the bigger black buckets? Asda do them for £1

Rubble sacks should work. I also had great results last year in the large Supermarket re-useable bags (about 40p) from Morissons, Tesco & Sainsburys (just added a few holes).
If you do want flower buckets have you thought about asking on Freecycle or your local equivalent.
  • I've seen those plastic bag type (the plastic like the pop-up garden tidy's you get) potato growers in Poundland.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Last year I used these big bags from Poundland and also the seed potatos from there and got a good crop as well.
Just make a few holes in the bottom of the bag and away you go.

Yes good. Well I spent 80p, last year in getting two of the re-useable Morissons bags & got loads of tatties!! agree with other poster that the buckets wouldn't of been too great for potatoes anyway.

Black buckets, without handles (that you see the bunches of flowers sat in, in water at the supermarkets).
Grew my chillis, peppers & toms in last year, bought from Morrissons.

I picked up 24 for 99p from Morrisons a couple of weeks ago. Great for chillies.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
