broadband collection problem after previous provider collapse

Hi All,

My previous broadband provider (Euro1Net) died at August and then I tried to switch to talktalk. However talktalk said that they tried twice to connect me but BT left a marker on the line and that stopped them doing the job.

What is my option now? Does it mean only BT can give me broadband? Can someone help? I have been broadbandless for two months.

Many Thanks

Jerry

Call 0800 169 0934 and they'll inform you of the marker on the line.

I just cant believe after being with one dodgy company you're planning to go with another!!!!

    Hi,
The reason for me to goto talktalk is that I have been using talktalk landline for two years and that was very good.

Well landline changeovers & broadband provision are two very different things. Your choice at the end of the day but ive not heard of a good story from talk talks broadband service

    Why were they dodgy?

Just cos they went bust? Lots of fine companies go bust, not because they are dodgy.

If you read all about Euro1net (eg on adslguide) prior to them closing they had high ratings from their members - and beat BT on the comparisons.

I mention BT, because you didn't when dissing another company, but elsewhere you have admitted to working for BT!

It would be fairer to us if you disclosed your association with a competitor when dissing another.

I dont work for any competitor which sells broadband. More to the point, i only post here in my own free time (so my views are impartial and not paid for by the people i work for).

Why were they dodgy? Well if a company doesnt pay the bills & leaves it for so long without telling the customers & then one day, bang their broadband has gone, i wouldnt call that 'good working practice', would you?

And for the record, i couldnt care about BT for ratings on ADSL guide, i dont use them for my broadband and i dont sell their retail products.

You do seem to be using some "technical" reasoning to escape being seen as an employee of BT Wholesale, yet you post on adslguide openly as a rep of BT Wholesale, answering specific BTWholesale queries.

BT Wholesale may not "sell" broadband - though most wholesalers earn their corn by selling to retailers, don't they? You can't deny they are the provider of broadband to retailers who then sell it on.

Your answer seems to try and circumvent the true situation regarding your connection with BT/BT Wholesale.

All posters here are asked to declare "any" interest - why do you say you have none? Employees of BT Wholesale must have an interest in stopping us joining talk talk - who's stated aim is to topple BT!

If everyone switches to talk talk for their broadband, then there will be no role for bt wholesale will there?

To suggest that both euro1net and talk talk are "dodgy" - then define dodgy as meaning a company in financial difficulties is a poor attempt at maligning talk talk's "working practices" - where is your evidence they are not paying their bills?

I dont think i ever have, but my main aim of my work isnt sales driven. So i couldnt really care less if everyone packed up off broadband.

I work for them, but what difference does it make? I still offer advice just like the rest of them, i have dealt with these companies outside and before i worked for BTW, so does this now mean i cant have an opinion about them?

Well there still would as they still use a supplier that goes through them. But as this is just a job for me & no real career path, again im not that fussed.

I was referring to Euro1Net with the financial difficulties, something well documented with articles in the press about it. As for Talk talk, its documented enough on here, even a relatives experience of it & my own personal experiences with them before i was employed by BTW therefore mean i cant express a view on them?

Instead of trying to be a pedantic idiot, why not try & help out people on here instead? Your work would be probably more appreciated & i wouldnt think of you as a jobsworth with nothing better to do all day. If you've anything further you'd like to comment please do it via PM to me & not clutter up this thread with your inane ramblings.

So you now break two forum rules:

    1) always declare any interest

    2) Please be nice to all MoneySavers (Why would I want to engage in pm's with someone so rude?)

    .......................................................

It was you who posted that talk talk is "another dodgy company".

It could be said that an employee of BT Wholesale would say that, wouldn't they?

I've answered the above already. If you've any further questions PM please as i've requested.
  • I can see both sides here and I feel a little step back, a deep breath and some common sense is called for.

Yes, we do normally ask that people who are answering questions about a company that they have a vested interest in declare it. However there is a difference between someone who is a member of these forums in a spokesperson type role predominantly to answer questions about their company (Samara from MadasaFish for example), and someone who posts generally and happens to reply to the odd thread about a company they work for.

Not everything is black and white and this is a definite case where there is some middle ground to acknowledge. Perhaps a fair compromise is in future anyone answering the odd question about a company they have a link to in a non spokesperson capacity simply comments along the lines of "I do work for [company], but this is my personal opinion...." to help clarity all round?

However if there is any doubt please let us know (abuse@moneysavingexpert.com) and we can look into it, rather than a public argument.
