Hi
I currently have a simple sort of phone and am thinking of buying a smartphone (probably an iphone or a htc desire hd) on either pay-as-you-go or unlocked from ebay.
I was wondering whether I could simply put my current sim into the smartphone and it would work. I am unsure about what smartphone companies refer to as a 'data plan'. I currently have unlimited internet on my current plan with O2.
(I am aware of the issue of micro and mini sim for iphone)
Thanks.

Short answer - Yes stick it in and it will work.
Check the FUP on your "unlimited internet" aka data plan0 -
Yes you can, a SIM is a SIM and they're an industry standard (I notice you're away of the micro SIM issue, however that's nothing scissors can't sort). As for 'data plan' you already have one, it's just another name for having an internet allowance on your tariff.0
