Halifax Easycash account (for the Visa Electron card)

I applied for this account on-line back in the first week of January. I am attacted by the functionality of their Electron card in avoiding airline charges. They did state at the time that due to the volume of applications it may take more than the standard two weeks to process my application. I have a high credit rating and a good job but in any event this is a deposit account only.
Despite having rang their bank account number on their website and then having been given their Easycase department's number by the same people (0845 609 0491) the only progress I have made is a serious of long holds on this 0845 number and then being told I had the alternative to email my query (no email address was provided and from their website only existing customers have this facility).
Has anyone had a similar experience or managed to circumvent this problem of late, grateful for any insight.
