Barclaycard said yes and then no after card issued.

in Credit cards
Has this ever happened to anyone because I am still in shock. I applied for a barclaycard online 2 days ago and was successful. It was the balance transfer card. I received my new card today. I rang the special number to activate my card and that was fine too. I then rang customers services to transfer the balance from another card (so I could close it) to the barclaycard. Customer services told me my card was withdrawn. I was shocked and asked if she was sure as I had already received a card with a limit. I asked why there was no letter to advise of this and she said it only happened today and they are allowed to withdraw cards after issue. OK, I was honest in my application, have an excellent credit score so not sure what is going on. Has this ever happened to anyone?? :(Thanks

Yes what they do is send you documentation but they still need to await other checks such as your credit file and fraud checks. They try to do this to speed up the process.0

But OP passed the check, had a limit decided, and a card sent out!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I would be writing a strong letter to find out why.0

It does happen though (as documented on several threads on here). Everything is automated, as mentioned for the sake of efficiency. However further checks are carried out after the initial acceptance and in a minority of cases this results in the acceptance being recinded. Obviously Barclaycard are of the opinion that saying yes first without the internal checks is a good way to go to provide a good service to the majority of new customers at the expense of a minority who will get knocked back even if they have a card in hand, because something crops up that means they don't meet the acceptance criteria.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0

And the reply will be "sorry but after further checks we have concluded you no longer meet our current criteria for this product."
They have every right to change their original decsion without explicitly saying why.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -

They do indeed.
It seems RBS Group and Barclaycard seem to be the most popular candidates for doing this to applicants, has anyone else read reports of this happening with any other bank or card issuer?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

External checks can take a few days and so this type of thing does occur. Bit stupid really as it will only cost the bank more money if the application gets declined.0

If you offset the tiny additional cost for the <1% that later get declined against the additional interest from issuing the cards earlier to 99% of customers and you can see why it is actually an obviously good "business" decision on the part of the banks. Not stupid in the slightest, but very frustrating for the OP and the others that end up getting rescinded after issue.Thinking critically since 1996....0
