Yes, your solictor should call you to let you know exchange has taken place. Often your EA will call too if you are selling. For some reason this often seems to happen between 12-2PM, especially if completion is also taking place today.

If you haven't heard anything by 2PM I'd give them a quick call.

Good luck ;) and let us know how you get on.

Although we signed contracts three weeks ago (today) and have been expecting to exchange any day, our sol said he would still call on us the morning of exchange, confirm we still wanted to go ahead with the sale, and then he would do the exchange, and call us back to confirm it had been done.

Do you have a chain, because if you do, and you are higher up, your exchange will depend on all the exchanges below, so it may be much later in the afternoon, rather than mid day. If necessary, ask your sol, if he expects it to be morning, noon or afternoon, and if you cannot hold on any longer, call at the end of the session that he indicated.

    Best of luck.

hex2 ...wishing you all the best but hope you won't be as nervous as I am!! ;)
izoomizoom ... when are you hoping to exchange?? I DID wonder if they call you to ask if you still want to proceed!!! :rotfl: What you said makes perfect sense too ... we are next but one to top of the chain.....
My husband and I are going out for lunch and having a bottle of wine ... but will we be clebrating or drowning our sorrows....??
As a matter of interest what does exactly happen when contracts are exchanged ....never thought about it before .. technically I suppose I mean "how is it done?" ....:rotfl: Just by word of mouth I presume from each solicitor or not..??

    Hi
I think each solicitor calls the next one up the chain and they swear by or under oath or something, and the exchange has happen oh and obviously the deposit money has to move up the chain
House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.

Hang in there everyone it is worth it

Yeah .. sounds about right - thanks!
ps am I allowed to swear under oath too..??!!! :rotfl:
  • ok, we exchanged on monday so i've a fair idea of how this works. We are bottom of the chain FTBers. We got a call about lunch time from the EA of the vendor to tell us that exchange would be occuring within the 'next hour'. About 2 hours later I got a call from my solicitor telling me exchange had occured for the chain.

It's pretty stressful and the exchange was delayed as we all argued about moving dates. Waiting for that call was terrible, but well worth it :)
  • He has to ring you, it is part of the procedure of exchange.
