Dont want to speak too soon BUT since last scan & reeboot IE is opening without the search enjine. Google looks to be functioning OK

Last night everything was fine, this morning turn on and back to another page opening behind with a search enjine. Go to google tell tale sign the line in the box prompting me to type flickering oddly and finally getting redirected. Ive just done 2 quick scans in safe mode nothing turned up.

Not happy is a understatement. Ive spent hour upon hour trying to sort this I dont feel confident to flatten the PC and start again.

You could boot into safe mode and clean out your temporary files and run the Virus/spy/anything ware check again.

press F8 at startup to enter safe mode at boot time, login as Administrator, not you usual name, use CCleaner you clean out your temp files and rouge startup entries.

To be honest anything more than this may well end up with a trip to PCworld support to reinstall your O/S:(

For banking I used Virtual PC, or vmWare, and had an image of linux. To be honest, these days for finance I use bootable CDs, either Puppy, or at a push ubuntu. This is the only really safe and secure option that does not put me on the too overcautious and paranoid list. Saying that I am browsing this via a puppy cd

Windows is far too easy to manipulate.
