I am buying a LG Flatron M1710A Monitor, any good?

Options
Might be the wrong place but hey im a student and I thought a few on here might know about monitors as all students these days use them.

I am getting the LG M1710A for £155 second hand but mint and boxed. I really liked the design and was wondering before I go and buy it I'll ask people on here for reccomendations and if this is a good deal.

The guy advertised at £200 but I got it to £155...maybe I can try my luck and pay him £140.

Its got 1280 x 1024 resolution, on top of my head and I think 500:1 which I heard was good.

    Hiya :)

I think this question would get a better response on our Techy Stuff board where the resident gurus will be sure to be able to help.

    Good luck :)

  • 500:1 is the contrast ratio and isn't all that good to be honest. If you want a decent "brand new" monitor have a look at this 19" one from Ebuyer

Oh ye, it's £117.49 inc VAT which is £40 cheaper than the smaller monitor you're being offered :-)

I know everyone goes going by brand isnt always best but becuase I know little about monitors I was thinking of sticking to one of the bigger name brands, I know that is kinda silly, especially, in a forum such as this.

Im not a web designer or anything just need a nice looking monitor, decent quality nothing too much and crap in quality.

Sounds like this guy is trying to rip you off - I got a LG Flatron 1917TM new for £140, including free onsite warrenty. It has a higher contrast ratio (700:1).

Thanks for that. I wont be buying it off him but someone else got this one for sale and its got good ratio, resolution and is 8ms which is very good.

She is selling it for £130 or maybe a bit less:

    Its a 19" Lcd Samsung 913N.

What do you reckon? Price is ok.

Also the above monitor on ebuyer totals just udner £130 inc. delivery + VAT.

I lot of the cheaper 17" monitors show text poorly, so try to see it with a Word Doc open with small font text if you plan to do home office work. This is why we still stick to the old CRT monitor for now.

Since you can get a 19" new for the same price (or less), why would you get that one? o.O
