The scrappy should give you 100+ especially if you deliver it to him, phone round for scrap yard quotes.

The most you could sell it for is £200 (to a complete idiot).

For me it's not worth the hassle easy £100 from the scrappy or a lot of hassle and possibly guilt selling a car in such a condition to a gulible.

make sure you take it to a registered scrappy and get an cert of destruction, also remember to remove the tax disc. All in all you should end up with about £150/£175.

All you need is to complete and retain section 9 on the V5 - the yellow bit.

You probably don't *need* to do it like this, I would suppose a letter to DVLA explaining the date of transfer the adress of the trader would suffice.

My local scrappy says "it's all done on computer now, no need to do the V5 thing" I just let him keep the whole V5 and he always sends me a DVLA - scrapped letter in the post a week or two later.

If you do go along with what the scrap man says (like I did) and you get no letter from your scrap man (like I do) then you might want to phone up DVLA after 2 weeks and ask them what action is required.

to save any hassle like this should only take the car to a scrappy that is registered and will issue an end of life cert instantly.

  • i would strip it for parts (not the bad bits) and sell them on ebay. cut the shell and weigh it in. engine and gearbox complete no reserve ebay. head lamps seals, door winder mechanisms everything you can undo complete all go on ebay at no reserve put the cash in the pot towards your new car.

someone i know buys a car out of freeads or the like for £100-£200 with a bit of ticket, mot failure on welding etc. strip out the good bits sell them on ebay he sually gets his money back plus profit and then weighs in the shell, send a recorded delivery letter to the dvla its been scrapped (signed by the merchant) and on wich day and send a photocopy of the destruction invoice when the V5 comes through he sends it off scrapped with the previous evidence.

thats what i'd do strip out all i could sell it all and scrap it.

To much bother and the OH would have a fit if it sat in the drive in bits.

When was the last time you scrapped a car? If you know of a scrappy who would pay a hundred for a car like that, give me his number.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
  • I weighed in a Daewoo Nubira Estate a couple of weeks back and with a few old radiators in I got £200 for it.

The going rate at my local scrap yard is £130/ton for cars (more for just metal)
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)
