I fully applaud George for doing this. Nurses do a great job, but so many other health professions also do a great job but tend to get forgotten about. Physios OTs radiographers, cleaners porters etc. It's a shame that this wasn't widened to reflect the countless number of hardworking team members who help support the stirling work of nurses and medicas in the NHS.

I agree, We are all part of a team and each discipline is just as important as the other under the NHS umbrella, the NHS often gets a bad press but I think it works fantastically well and has progressed immeasurably since it was introduced not too many years ago. I think most people agree, the budget is always 'creaking' and its a shame we're so understaffed, but the majority of staff go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the best possible care is given. I believe in miracles, they happen every day in the medical world, and its so nice that George Michael would do this, I feel very humbled that he selected to do this for us nurses. Thanks George xxx:beer: :T :T :j :j :A

I suppose he is just reflecting upon people who was there in his mothers last moments. Which i know i would reflect on this if it was my parents.i know cleaners, ots, and physios also do a fantastic job . In the community its sometimes slightly diffrent in peoples last weeks/months in there life.Community staff nurses and pallitive care nurses have a massive input in this. But also hospital nurses also do a fab job in helping people at the end stages of life. So i can understand there maybe a concert for all NHS staff porters cleaners etc. but were could you end it? there would be millions of people apply for his tickets! So I think he has got his request for just for front line nurses who deal with pallitive issues.0

Good for him - wish I was a nurse! (And that's the first and last time I'll ever say that!!).
Hope you all get tickets.
Mel.Though no-one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.

I know what you are saying and am certainly not knocking the very generous offer or the amazing nurses who work in palliative care. And I know I am going off topic, but as a therapist I have spent years working in palliative care. I am very aware that we are a tiny part of a much greater team but there is often a feeling among non nurses that whenever the NHS is thought of all that is thought of is Drs and nurses. TV news and polititians seem to talk of the NHS in the same terms.
Certainly not sour grapes from me. I hope everyone who gets to go has a great time, just flagging up the rest of us who play our parts in making the last days as easy as possible.
The practicalities of opening up to the whole NHS staff are indeed huge. However there seem to be the ability to have several ceremonies each year to applaud the achievements of TV celebrities and film stars. Nothing wrong with that. And the success of Live8 offering tickets for the whole country was clear. Maybe we could have a Medic fest or Therabury. Just getting silly now.
good luck all you nurses
