i wondered at the XA letters, not one i had seen before
however im not quite sure you got the correct info
if you have a 13 digit number, then i would expect it to be tracked
perhaps not on the customer site, but that 13 digit number is an RM number.not an RMA number for the likes of play
its been scanned in at the PO. did the label you affixed say signature required? (ive never returned an item to play)

The lady in the village PO said that I didn't need a specific Recorded Signed For label because the label she put on was pretty much the same thing. She had a roll of stickers with the XA prefex especially for returning goods to companies that had pre-paid labels attached.

I don't believe the Play returns label had anything on it that suggested anyone had to sign for it upon receipt, if that's what you mean?
If it's not trackable, why is the code accepted on the RM website with the "Item XA*********GB was posted at [my post office] on 08/02/11 and is being progressed through our network for delivery." message

    Seems trackable to me

Well, yes, that's what I thought, but the lady at RM insisted it was basically just a proof of postage and there was no way of tacking it.

I have to go to the PO tomorrow so I'm going to ask the regular woman who runs the show and see what she says.
  • Over the christmas snow "disaster", I was expecting a tracked parcel, and that very same message came up. It's a valid code accepted by RM. I wouldn't accept the word of your local PO workers. Go higher.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Thought I'd update this in case anyone else is having problems with Play.

The XA number IS trackable and, indeed, can be internally tracked with RM. Having found this out I e-mailed Play again and explained that, since it was their returns label, it is down to them to chase the package with RM and is neither my job nor my right to do so. They e-mailed back asking me for a scan of the postage receipt, which I duely sent. I'm now awaiting my refund.

So, for anyone who might have found this thread on Google etc. do not let Play fob you off with their delaying tactics and untruths about who's responsible for items returned using their returns labels! They pay for the ruturns postage so it's they who have to chase any alleged lost items, not you, the customer.

I'll update again when I get my refund. In the meantime, I managed to find the same set on Tesco's website for the same price, so I've ordered from them and will pick it up from the store in town on Monday. That way I can at least check it over and reject it straight away if there's any problem with it. Lesson learned, I think. ;)
  • This type of thing makes me so angry! a big company like that should appreciate customers spending their money on them. I won't ever shop at Play.com now because it's even made me annoyed!

I'd stop reading this board anymore now then. I very much doubt there's a single company that hasn't been complained about yet. You'll have no where left to buy anything!
