Play.com... Oh my word!

What's happened to Play.com in recent years? They've really gone down the pan!
Not knowing how rubbish they've become and having been a customer of theirs since they first opened, I decided to buy the Doctor Who 11 Doctor's collection from them a few weeks ago as they were the cheapest by a tenner. Put the order in at the same time as a Soinic Screwdriver pen (for me Mum!) and waited. Next day I ordered a couple more things from their sale; Sonic Screwdriver that's an actual screwdriver and a WotW Martian model kit. Sat back and waited.
Was really surprised at how fast things started turning up this time as it usually takes the best part of a week. But this time I got the pen in about 3 days followed by the Martian and Screwdriver the following day. Was surprised to find the screwdriver in a battered box dispite it being inapropriately packaged in a box five times bigger than the item! Martian turned up in a pastic bag with a thin bit of bubble wrap as an attempt at protection! What a joke!
Wondered where my 11 Doc's were, but thought they might be a bit delayed. A week later they finally arrived! They'd been sent via Hermes, a company I've used a couple of times myself. What was really staggering was that it'd been dumped my by side door propped up against the recycling bin for anyone to nick!
Anyho, took it in and noticed that it wasn't protected at all, it was just dumped in a plastic bag. Upon opening said plastic bag I found that the box was badly crushed. I didn't even bother checking the figures as I'm a collector and a broken box is a no-no for me; if I'm paying £40 I want the stuff to be MINT! So I initiated a return for it and the Screwdriver as I just wasn't a happy camper.
Sent items back on Feb 8th and waited for a replacement. Got a new Screwdriver middle of last week but nothing on the 11 Doc's. Waited... waited... waited... During the course of waiting I sent about five e-mails asking for an update, all of which have been ignored. I did get one, mildly placating e-mail back assuring me I'd get a MIB example when they received the broken one back, but otherwise it's been pure silence.
Until today! I sent another e-mail threaterning legal action (seems that's the only way to get a response from these clowns nowadays!) and they're telling me that they haven't even got the 11 Doc's back! WTH?! But they got the cheaper Screwdriver back OK?! I sent them both back on the same day and got tracking for both of them. Trouble is, Royal Fail's website is beyond useless and just tells me:
Weird thing is, it's saying the exact same thing for the Sonic Screwdriver I returned and that Play.com have already replaced!
So, I've got proof that it's been sent back but no proof that Play have received it. £40 is a lot of money for me to loose and I want it back! Or the 11 Doc's in a mint box, either way, I'm currently fuming! I've tried reasoning with Play but their not-so-well-trained monkey's just won't get off their backsides and go and physically LOOK to see if the item's back in their warehouse!
So, what can I do? I can't have them under the DSR's because they're in Jersey and Jersey's not covered. How can I make the gits give me my money back?
Sorry this post was a bit longer (and a bit angrier!) than I expected!

Start by phoning Royal Mail, go thru the options till you get to speak to a person.
They can check if you item has been delivered, and if it has, send you a copy of the signature.

claim from RM
you are covered for £410 -
Call Royal mail, and do as munchings-n-crunchings said and then call Play.com (if there's a number) or email again saying you have spoken to Royal mail and that you have proof it was delivered and threaten again with legal action, if they ignore it then actually take legal action!
This type of thing makes me so angry! a big company like that should appreciate customers spending their money on them. I won't ever shop at Play.com now because it's even made me annoyed!0 -

you seem to be assuming Play have the item?0 -
OK, phoned RM (stupid bloody automated things! For anyone reading this, if you phone 08457 740 740 just hold, don't press anything, you'll get a human. In my case a nice Welsh lady!). Turns out because it was a Play.com returns label starting with XA it's not trackable... which is contrary to what the lady in my loacal PO said as I specifically asked her if I should add a signed for option and she said no as it's signed for anyway! F%@*^%$£*
So looks like there's sod all I can do about it as I've got to wait 15 working days before I can claim from RM.
Seriously, this is the last time I buy from Play. They've lost a loyal customer because of their utter incompitence.0 -

You're going to stop using a company because of the reported experience of a complete stranger? Suggest you stop reading these boards because your shopping options will soon be severely limited!0 -

Yeah, have to agree. Just because Play have dropped the ball on this occassion, doesn't mean they'll do it if someone else buys something.
It's just a succession of little problems that have made me rethink buying anything from them again. I might buy the odd DVD or something, but I'll certainly be looking elsewhere for collectable items, even if they cost me more from another store.0 -
Damn, now I want 11 Drs & a sonic scredriver!Wedding 5th September 20150

i wondered at the XA letters, not one i had seen before
however im not quite sure you got the correct info
if you have a 13 digit number, then i would expect it to be tracked
perhaps not on the customer site, but that 13 digit number is an RM number.not an RMA number for the likes of play
its been scanned in at the PO. did the label you affixed say signature required? (ive never returned an item to play)0 -
If it's not trackable, why is the code accepted on the RM website with the "Item XA*********GB was posted at [my post office] on 08/02/11 and is being progressed through our network for delivery." message
Seems trackable to meOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
