  • dunstonh - Halifax do not treat financial advisers as another member of staff. They treat them as gods, much to the annoyance of other staff. And anyway - why should they not be treated just like every other member of staff. i see myself trained in my area, and them in their area. I do not see them as above me.

They earn more than MA's much to the annoyance of the MA's. I have just done a mortgage advance for a PFA - £100k earning on P60. Of course mostly commision so you have to perform. It is all targets, but that is the job.

Every PFA in my area in Halifax, has come from HSBC for some reason? Anyone know why?

You're going for a trainee FPM position? Please please please go to another bank. If you want to work within wealth management at HSBC you'd better hit your targets!

Blimey. Perhaps they listened to me after all ;)

Day and evening appointments should allow the adviser to walk in at 11am or not even turn up in branch that day with all the home visits etc. As long as the job is being done, there should be a problem.

Its not about treating them as gods but treating them as adults with responsibility. That appeared to be lacking.

100k is quite good for a tied agent nowadays. Thats not far off what you expect an IFA to be earning. Good on that person. Feel sorry for the customers that they have sold some pretty poor products too though.

  • Don't do it, working for a bank is horrible, I'm looking for another job as the stress isn't worth it.

Yes they had a huge overhaul not too long back and made most of the branch management redundant putting more pressure on the staff and skeleton management left behind...

Having worked for HSBC for 5 years I wouldn't recommend it unless you are happy to tread the party line..but then I think that is like a lot of companies. Sales targets are the norm wherever you go but impossible ones to make sure you can't hit your incentive target don't motivate me!

  • dunstonh - your comment about home visits made me laugh - they do not leave the branch. are contracted monday to friday 9-5 but most leave early afternoon. rare saturday if they choose

they don't do home visits - unless its someone with loads of money.

The PFA's I have spoken to - and have taken products all say they there are low entry and exit charges, but this is not my area, and those that have left HSBC must have chosen HBOS or BOSIS for one reason or another

would love to win something 'proper'!!
  • ALL THIS MAKES ME THANK GOD I DON'T WORK FOR ANYONE. LET ALONE A BANK.

GOOD LUCK BOLTON ANGEL - MY MUM IN LAW WORKS FOR ABBEY, HAS WORKED THERE VERY HAPPILY FOR 14 YEARS. I WORKED FOR THEM ALSO BETWEEN 1993-1997 - AGAIN, VERY HAPPY - I DON;T KNOW IF THEY DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BANKS BUT I HAD NO COMPLAINTS. I HAVE HEARD BRADFORD AND BINGLEY ARE GOOD, AND THERE IS ALSO AN AGENCY CALLED LINEAR MORTGAGE NETWORK WHO RECRUIT AND ALLOCATE BROKERS TO ESTATE AGENTS - GIVE THEM A TRY - http://www.linearmn.com/
