Is "SmartProtect" Small Car Accident Repair Policy any good?

I'll be picking up my new car next week and the agent has offered me a contract with an outfit call "Auto Protect" for a produce called "SMARTprotect" whereby for £349 and for a period of 3 years I can obtain mobile minor bodywork repairs up to a value of £3000 (minor dents, scrtches, scuffs and chips)
Has anyone any experience of the service provided by this company? Thanks.

Never heard of it however Auto Protect are a shambolic company and if they are as keen to wriggle with this as they are with their used car warranties then you might as well put your £349 down the drain

If you have to pay for three hundred and fifty pounds worth of repairs over three years, I'd be very worried about your ability to park a car, or your judgement about where you park your car. ;)

But seriously, you have to think about the likelihood of it needing to cost that amount of money for smart repairs, over three years. The cost to the dealer for that product is about fifty pounds.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

TBH flyboy if you park in a congested car park regularly you're going to suffer this damage because 99% of motorists don't give a flying one :(

    Auto Protect are SCUM tho

This reminds me of when i first bought my Renault Sport Clio 182

The dealer sold me a product called "Autoguard" or something

Basically they sprayed a chemical onto the paintwork, interior etc to stop dirt sticking to the paint, and spills not sticking to the interior

I paid £400 for it and tbh it was pretty good at first, but after a few months the effects wore off and then i wondered what i'd spent that money on!

Op if your careful with your car then don't bother

The choice is yours - If you want protection then other companies offer it too
If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred

Example of Auto Protect and their awesomeness - "one tailgate strut has failed on your 23k mile 3 year old car and this has damaged the 2nd, therefore you'll need to pay Renault parts + labour for half of the job"

I'd love cover like this in theory - car park dings are a PITA - just doubt Auto Protect's ability to honour it
  • Thanks, Guys. I think I'll steer well clear, then....

Well, calling out an independant dent devil type person is usually pretty cheap, £50-100 I think, so I don't think its worth it, unless you can't park and will need one out every week :p . My dad called one out a few years ago who did what looked to us a fine job on his MX-5, in his work carpark, then said 'Oh I haven't done a very good job of that one, £30.'

Smart repairs are usually rubbish and don't last that long at the best of times

Does your dad still have the MX5?

Nah, sold it about 4 years ago, but he got it repaired a good couple of years before that iirc. He now has another MX-5 (his third lol).
